Well, I've been waiting since March 17 for my dv1000t from costco.com.

It has Intel Core Duo Processor T2300 (1.66GHz) with Centrino® Duo mobile technology, 1GB DDR2 SDRAM (2 x 512MB), 100 GB harddrive (5400rpm), etc. etc., with the 6 cell battery.

Pre-configured to Costco's specs, no option to change configuration.

    Compared to www.hp.com, it's a GREAT deal (Save $250)

Been waiting since March 17th, with no change in status (In Process)

NOW... I go to www.costco.com and see they have $150 off custom configured dv1000t laptops.

    Hummmmm....

I start to configure a dv1000t the way I'd really like it:

    • Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2400 (1.83 GHz)
    • 1.0GB DDR2 SDRAM (1x1024MB)
    • 100 GB 5400 RPM Serial ATA Hard Drive
    • FREE Upgrade DVD+/-RW/R CD-RW Combo w/Double Layer

I went from 1.66Ghz duo core to a 1.83 duo core (not sure how noticalbe this will be, but... )

I changed from 2 x 512MB ram to 1 x 1024MB, allowing me to upgrade to 2mb in the future without throwing out my existing 512MB ram, AND I switched from a 6 cell to a 12 cell battery, to give me (I hope) 3.5 to 4 hours charge.

    Bottom line.... I SAVED $40! :D

Guess I'm back to the end of the line, as far as waiting for my dv1000t, but I think it's worth it.

    Weird.....

If you go for the minimum memory option and buy that from newegg, you may save even more. 1GB DDR2 SODIMM is selling at around $60-$70 a stick. It seems Costco.com may be updating their HP customizable notebook order page. I cannot find the link this morning.

    Thanks Bill
Yeah... I could save a few bucks getting it with 256k of Ram, but I don't really mind paying so that I get it already to go.

I do like the fact that now, if I want to upgrade to 2MB of Ram, I don't have to either trash the 2 512's or try to sell them on e-bay.

Guess costco.com's slowness in configuring my dv1000t paid off in the end!

(It is strange, though. If you choose their configuration, they quote 15-20 business days before it is built and sent out. Configure it yourself, they quote 10-14 business days! What's THAT all about???? How can it take LONGER to go with Costco's configuration?)

check out the deals on www.costco.com for your gf's dvkt. They have some GREAT deals!

Thanks for your photos. I saw them before. Right now, that's about all I can do, look at photos of the dv1000t.... now I guess I have to wait another few weeks, but I'll end up with a (slightly) nicer system, so I guess it's worth it!

Is it comfortable to type with that cover? Does it stick to your fingers?

I don't feel much different with the cover on and think its pretty comforatble as well. Also, it doesn't stick to ur fingers, cos its made of non stick silicone material.

Its one of the quietest laptops I've used. As for excessive heat, compared to other laptops it very acceptable. I can actually use it on my lap without a heat shield!

APP discount???, please expand on that and how I could get that also.

On the price differances you quote, it's NOT really a good deal going thru HP, instead of Costco for the simple fact:

1: Costco: Return the unit at any time within 6 months, get ALL your money back, plus shipping..

2: HP: You have 21-days. In addtion if you make (2?) returns, swap, exchange... they ban you. Shipping refundable?

In addtion to the above and the prices you guote you need to fiqure in any sales tax. I know when I went thru Costco that I saved quite a bit over buying locally. Didn't ever "place" and order with HP to find out the final price, if they charge taxes, or at what rate since HP was several HUNDRED dollars MORE for the SAME unit I CTO'd (dv8000t CTO)

(CTO= Custom To Order- Shipped directly from factory in China).

For those that are wondering how long it takes to get a CTO order thru Costco:
    Order placed:
    April 2nd, 10:45pm
    In system April 3
    Shipped April 7
    Delivered April 10, 8:35am

Here's another tip for anyone who is "looking" to order a laptop....

ORDER the EXTRA battery at same time you CTO the laptop.

When you CTO it, there is an option to buy an extra battery.

On the dv8000t I bought extra battery was showing as:
    $83 thru Costco
    $99 Thru HP

And like $160 thru HP for the SAME battery if you selected the battery on the 2nd page that popped up on the HP site, Or you order the battery later.

Note: HP was HIGHER on all the other options as well, Costco being lower on each selected option...

In addtion Costco had $150 instant off, taken off the top of the order...)

On last tip: You CAN buy the HP EW /Accident insurance thru HP. This option does not show on the Costco site.
