    Hello,

Just picked up a custom G62T from the HP Home site. Here are the specs:

    Core i3 380m 2.53 ghz
    4gb ram
    ATI radeon 5470 1gb
    320 gb HDD (7,200 rpm)

So far so good. I use it mostly to play SCII. I can run it smoothly on High settings for all games except 4v4. I know a lot of people hate on this particular graphics card but I find it performs well(though I'm not a hardcore gamer).

My question is: the laptop came with a single 4gb ram stick with one slot left open. Would I see any benefit to adding an additional 2gb ram or should I might as well go straight and max out at 8gb ram. Additionally, does anyone know what speed and brand the installed ram stick is?

I did a quick log and I hit 95% ram usage routinely during heavy game play with email in the background.

    Thanks in advance.

    Congratulations on the notebook purchase!

You can check the speed and brand of the RAM currently installed using a free utility like CPU-Z. Since your laptop comes with one stick of 4 GB and you're utilizing most of it, I think it would be wise for you to add another 2 GB for 6 GB total. If cost is not an issue for you, you can try going for another 4 GB -- prices have been falling drastically and it is becoming more affordable.

Did you receive it yet? I helped my friend order a G62x and she got a ATI 6370 instead of the 5470. Just wondering if she got lucky or HP needs to update their site.

Way over this part of the world down under the HP G62 and HP G42 models are named Compaq CQ62 and Compaq CQ42.

I brought an Intel i3-330M Compaq CQ62 model and a cheap Intel Celeron T3100 Compaq CQ42 model.

Then I swapped the motherboard from the CQ62 model, fitted a Core i7-620M, and installed it into the CQ42. Makes for one very nice portable, fast and cheap 14" notebook.

I would be guessing if your friend has a ATI 6370 graphics processor, she likely has the new HM65 chipset and Sandy Bridge if it is Intel based?

    My motherboard swapped Compaq CQ42 now runs this hardware: Intel i7-620M ' HM55 Chipset ' ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5430 ' 4GB DDR3-1333 ' Seagate 320GB 7200rpm
