    Just ordered an Envy 17 and I am afraid.

    Well, I've seen so many mixed reviews of the Envy 17, and now I am worried my purchase will burn me. How many of the problems have been fixed with bios and driver updates? And how common is getting a warped notebook or other such defects?

    I absolutely love the look of the Envy and for the price I got I couldn't find a laptop with better specs anywhere. I got it refurbished, so I'm also worried my unit will be one that was defective for someone else and wasn't fixed properly.

    Here's my Envy just for completion:
    i7-720qm
    6GB RAM
    500GB HDD
    Radeon HD 5850
    1600x900 Screen
    Bluray Player

    Don't think about the problems, because you can search them in everything.

    There is a chance you will get a good unit, like I did. Just enjoy it.

    Relax, fella. Like aetsch said, people usually come onto these kind of message boards to complain, not to praise, so that's what you're seeing...and such things aren't exclusive to the HP Envy by any means.

    Read reviews of the Envy 17. I don't recall seeing a bad one, or one saying the heat was completely intolerable and renders the laptop useless. I think those owners that say that this is the case have defective units. If that happens to you, just return it. No use sweating it...

    I agree. The heat on mine is never unbearable, especially not on the palm rest. Now there are times that the heat on the bottom left can be too much, so I'll put something on my lap.

    the heat on my envy 17 (early adopter, got it first week it was released) was super hot, running a 1TB 2.5" drive on under the left palm rest. Hoping that has been fixed with bios updates or whatever, or else i'll just buy 2xssds.... don't tell the wife.

    @johnnobts

    Buy three and send me one. :)

    The heat on my Envy 17, from Amazon, isn't bad at all. When playing SCII, Guildwars, League of Legends, Dirt 2 etc. the palm rest gets warm. I did some testing with all the Envys that I received. I went through 5 of them. I can confidently say that the earlier units I had got warmer than the units I received later. Furthermore, the Envy I have right now is actually running cool than when I got it (not cause of weather).
