Just finished ordering an nc6400, called in to see if any discounts were availble and got them to match fatwallet 5% cashback and 3% off the warranty. Nothing major, but better than nothing.

Was told an estimated ship date of around Jan 28, but the sales rep said it should be much sooner than that. Anyone else ordered one lately?

I was on the fence between an nc6400 and t60, but with the t60 not coming in 14.1" widescreen I went ahead and got the nc6400. From reading these forums I had seen that Lenovo had been experiencing heavy delays as far as the Z series and I believe T series goes. Although I have heard people rave about Lenovo's quality and I have been impressed when I have used them myself, it has been my experience that sometimes when companies get bogged down with high order quantities, quality may be sacrificed to meet demand. I really hope this doesn't happen with Lenovo.

This most recent thread is one of interest to me: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=95801 where people who have recently received t60's are discussing quality issues. I am just putting this out there as a heads up to anyone who may be on the fence as I was between hp and lenovo.

When I ordered mine, 2-3 weeks ago, they told me I should see it towards the first week of Jan. I have now had it for several days. I ordered a preconfig model.

Could you please tell me more about the discounts you got? I'm actually returning my nc6400 and will buy one with a Core2 processor and I'd like to ask for a discount.

    Thanks.

    Sure I'd be glad to.

I called up because it said call for availability, the rep told me to let him configure it like I wanted it and see if they had any deals he could offer that weren't on the internet. Once I told him all the options I wanted he said he could offer me 4% off on the computer (about $100) and 3% off on the 9x5 next day on site service (about $4).

In case you aren't familiar with it, fatwallet ( http://www.fatwallet.com/) is a site that lists deals and has agreements with certain stores to allow you to get cashback when you clickthrough fatwallet.com to get to a store. HP small business has such an agreement with fatwallet.com ( http://www.fatwallet.com/store.php?store=1083) to where you get 5% off of purchases with HP small business. Thing is you still pay the full price with HP and you wait a few weeks until the rebate shows up in your fatwallet account - at which time fatwallet will pay you the rebate.

I told the rep about this and he put me on hold, then came back and said he could match the 5% along with the 3% off on the warranty. This isn't really a remarkable discount in my opinion, but it at least cover's the tax I would have paid on my notebook and I wouldn't expect HP small business to discount deeply unless I were a volume buyer.

I really feel like if you take a similar approach and push for a bit more off you can get it - I think if I had said fatwallet offered 8% off instead of 5%, I could've gotten 8% - but if they had checked it I would have been caught in a lie and may have gotten nothing. I think if I had pushed for a bit more and then said "well.. i'll have to think about it I'll call back" he may have given me a percent or two more, but I wanted to get the order in and be done with it.

I had ordered a preconfig from hp, it went way past the expected ship date without coming. I canceled and ordered my laptop from macmall.com and it was at my door the next day.
