Well its 11:00PM and I finally made my new computer purchase. I just sold a solid Dell Desktop to a customer that was my personal computer. I was going to build another desktop, but I love my IBM X30 notebook. So I though why build another desktop when I could be fully portable and all data only on one machine. I have owned several 17inch Dell based notebooks as well, but I feel that is two big and I do not need to all graphics power, but a balance between power, size, and weight. Thus I started to look at the new T61P 14.1 inch model. Ordered it online from Lenovo's website with a 10% coupon. Everything went fine until I call to check on my order and they tell me my order has an "Invalid Configuration" I ask what can I do to fix this. Rep tells there is nothing and they will call when they have more info. The screen was also a concern due to Lenovo's quality control issues lately. What really pissed me off that Lenovo thought it was cool to gimp the 570 in the 14 inch T61P by cutting the memory to 128MB's which I could deal with, but this also in affect cut its memory bus to 64bit which Lenovo did not state on anywhere on there site. Thus I started to look at other notebooks. I came acrossed the 8510w and I knew this was the notebook I wanted. 4 USB 2.0, HDMI, SD Card reader, Finger Print scanner, WSXGA+, loaded specs all for 2,000$. Also a bonus was I could order from newegg and use my preferred account and get 6 months no interest and get it right away if it ships from CA. I plan to write a review so stay tuned. Complete with impressions, pictures, benchmarks, battery life, and most importantly the screen. Notebook review had an WUXGA and mine will have WSXGA+. I hope its an LG

Congrats you are going to love it -
why is newegg cheaper than ordering from HP? is it that hp comes with a 3/3/3 warranty and newegg only comes with a 1/1/0? is that the $200?
-
Just in general a company will try to not undercut their resellers, kind of bad for business.
-
yeah, i just called newegg and hp. newegg said that the warranty info listed is not current or accurate. they suggested i call hp. hp confirmed that all the 8510w come with the 3/3/3 warranty. so, as long as it's a new machine from newegg, then it's got the three year warranty.
good to know -
the screen is very important to me too. the WUXGA version sounds like it had issues. that's the main reason i haven't ordered one at this point. i keep debating between this and macbook pro with the 15" LED display.
did hp give you an ETA? looking forward to your review! -
Its coming from Texas via a drop ship. I will have it in my hands on the 30th, in two days.
-
That is really good to know. I had to pay taxes, but I used my card to get 6 months no interest. The Warranty was my main concern. I was gonna call HP to check, but lefty did for me.
-
well Fedex rules and I am getting my notebook tonight. I will post some pictures of the unit and most importantly what everyone wants to know about is the WSXGA+ screen since I bet its the same on the 8510w and 8510p models.
-
This Laptop seems like a great one!
I can't wait till we get another review on it. I also can't wait till we get a 8510p review as well.
I hope you all enjoy your 8510w/p's!! -
It looks like these 8600GT cores are very O/Cable. I hope I can push it to 600/800 up from 475/700. Only time will tell.
-
Well Fedex did not deliver today for some reason. Thus my intital preview will have to wait till tomorrow.
-
still no dice?
-
We all are looking forward to some test and even quick review
-
I have got a brand new HP 8510w and made a short impression report with some pics and benchmarks on www.notebookforum.at.
Its german, but the specs and Benchmarks should be no problem to interpret. Maybe i find the time to post a translation in the next days
In any case, its an awesome piece of hardware
-
Thanks for that!! 3900 on stock drivers in 3dm06
sounds really good
-
I did get my notebook. I am working on getting XP installed. On the bloated Vista I got 3600 stock and 4500 when I was O/Ced.
-
what did You o/c?? and by how much??
-
Did you get an LG screen or Samsung? I recalled you were hoping it was an LG.
-
Neither LMAO, its a CMO screen I think, unless I checked using the wrong software.
-
How're the brightness levels? I'm curious because the WUXGA versions are known to be fairly dim.. I'm hoping the WSXGA+ versions aren't.
-
Man, I am about ready to do that same thing, for similar reasons. Mostly I am concerned about the quality control on the T61p screens. The availability off newegg is great as well. Hmmm..........
-
In my opinion the brightness is good, but not super bright, but very good. Colors are good and accurate. Nothing pops out at you, but its a solid matted screen for business user who want accuracy. Also mine has zero bleed and even lighting from what I can tell.
-
So far from what I gather from the Lenovo forum, the WSXGA+ versions of the T61p have less issues than its WUXGA counterpart. I would assume that should hold true in general when talking of WSXGA+ vs WUXGA on a 15.4" screen.
Altho it doesn't hurt to have input from Vengeance since he is the only one or 2 that I know of that has the WSXGA+ 8510w
-
Pretty sure I have the same screen as Vengeance. I agree with his post above 100%.
Just ordered my HP 8510w from newegg
