I think you threw away some money at the 2720QM - there is little difference between the 2630qm and it costs something like 150 more dont it?

Yea the benchmark shows a good increase in performance yet a loss from the 2720 to the 2860(or whichever)

Technically with the 2720QM the upgrade is only $100 after the coupon is factored in. May or may not be worth it depending on the usage.

The free upgrades you got are very nice. The only thing I would've done different is taken the 640GB 7200RPM drive. I'd recommend in the future getting one, use it as your system drive and use the 5400RPM drive for backup, pictures and videos. You will notice a performance gain.

Most benchmarks show about a 10-15% difference, and the price is roughly about 10% (or less after you lucky Americans get to use all your coupons). Obviously any performance gains will depend on what you're doing, but it's generally an ok upgrade. Much better value than the next step up to a 2820QM. The 2630QM is just that good a processor for most people that there isn't a real need to step up, but for those that want it/need it it is a decent value upgrade.

It's 10% (15% with Turbo) performance for $100 so the ratio of performance increase over price increase is 1 or less. If you run CPU-bound tasks, it's worth it. I'm also betting that if you disable Turbo via HP's utility, it will run cooler.
