After alot of research and looking around the forums I finally ordered myself my first laptop!

I ordered the dv8000t through costco, had some pretty good deals going there. $150, $50 rebate and free shipping

    The specs of my system:
    -2.0 Ghz duo
    -windows xp media center
    -2gig ram
    -100 gig HD (5400 rpm)
    -WSXGA+ BrightView Widescreen (1680x1050)
    -256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7400
    -LightScribe Combo w/Double Layer
    -Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection
    -8 cell battery

This thing is a beast and can't wait to get my hands on it! Sadly, the shipping date is April 8th but I can wait (I'm already waiting till May 2nd for the new TOOL cd hah) I have been reading up that the GO7400 gpu isn't all that great but the 256MB doesn't hurt and I'm not that hardcore of a gamer :p

Ill be sure to take some pictures and do a small review on it, it will be some weeks tho...

    who else owns the dv8000t?

does $150.00 plus $50.00 rebate is deducted from $1196.00? It will be cheaper than hpshopping.com!

the $150 is deducted directly at the total at the end and then you can do the $50 rebate. I should have said that the $150 is not a rebate, only a deduction :p

I just ordered mine off of HP's site. You should have got the standard RAM and kick back the ship date and replace the RAM for cheaper on your own! :) Congrats tho... I will be joining you in the sea of DV8000t owners in two weeks or so! The 7400 gpu is enough for my pc use... and light 3d that I play! ;)

good luck and let us know when it comes! I shall do the same!!!

I am just about finished with the painful process of returning my Dell E1705, and will be buying the unit shortly. Do you have suggestion of where to buy RAM to the unit? Also, for a non-gamer, is 1GB OK, if so, should put in a 1GB module or 2x512? Is there a big cost difference?

You need 2 equal memory sticks to use the dual {edit}channel memory{/edit}, otherwise you lose its function.

Hey, try: http://newegg.com for your RAM needs! That's where I'm planning to get my 2GB set! Check out the one from Mushkin... Not a "big" brand, but the reviews are great!

No..No. You can use any size module you want. The only advantage of using 2 equal sized modules is to gain the dual channel functionality(not dual core), which just increases the available memory bandwidth. It is a bit overrated and only very few programs see any benefit from running in dual channel memory.

It is recommended to get 2 equal memory sticks but is not necessary and there wont be any huge performance hits by going with different size memory sticks.

^^^I stand corrected  Sorry for the incorrect info... I got confused for a minute about dual channel memory, thinking it was only offered in dual core processors. I still have lots to learn - I'll limit my comments to what I actually know versus what I think..hehe.
