Yesterday I received my dv1000t configured as follows.
1.83ghz core duo
Windows XP Home sp/2
DVD/RW Duel Layer
HP Remote
1gig Ram
14inch Bright View Display w/webcam
Intel Pro Wireless/Bluetooth
80gb 5400rpm HD
The Good:
Computer has an excellent screan, and the core Duo is much faster then the regular centrino. My father has a dv1000, so I liked the design.
The Bad:
Mine arrived with a few problems. First off I have very very weak wi-fi signal. Unless i'm in the same room with the router it's terrible. The keyboard also has a few crooked keys. Belive it or not, the Top of the laptop lid, the silver finish has overspray. One section is dark silver, while the other section is light in color. For the price I paid, 1585 with taxes I feel this is unacceptible. I could deal with the cosmetic blemises, but whats the use of having wi-fi with no range?![]()
I'm coming from the apple side. I currently use a 1ghz ibook G4 which has bluetooth and all the bells and whistles you could have at the time. I wanted more media features and more display. The overall build quality of the machine felt cheap to me, even cheaper then the first gen dv1000 which is basically the same platform.. Fed Ex is picking up the unit, and HP is now in the process of building me another machine. Hopefully I have better luck. If not i'll save my pennies for a macbook pro since the craftsmanship and quality of the mac seems worth the price increase over the HP. I have owned other HP laptops before and they never failed me. Some people are still using them to this day. I just want the to be confident that I won't have a beat up paper weight in a years time.

Sorry to hear about the poor build quality! That is surprising, as for the most part, I've heard good things about the dv1000(t).
I have one on order, so now I'm a little worried. Guess I'll just wait and see what happens. I ordered it from Costco, so if I have to return it, it shouldn't be a problem, but after the long wait, I really don't want to have to return it.
Do you mind my asking, how long did it take from the time you ordered it from HP until the time it was shipped?
I do hope you have better luck with the new one HP is building for you. I've seen the dv1000 at CompUSA, and it looked nice, but they bolt it to the table, so you really can't pick it up and see how it feels.
Thanks -
I placed my order the 17th of this month, March. The computer had an estimated ship/build date of the 28th. The computer shipped on the 24th, and I received it on the 27th. I now have an est build date for April 5th on the new machine. It sure does stink having to wait again.

I leave town April 10th, and sure hope i get it by then.
Hope your second computer turns out better then your first. I'd think it will.
Thanks!
