I recently got this notebook (well the other day), the DV6614TX, which has the 2GHz duo processor, 2GB ram, 250GB hard drive, the 8400GS graphics card and i've been through all the other topics, the out of the box HP notebook one, and how to create the recovery disc, which i'll do soon, uninstalling the bloatware, configuring Vista for better performance. But i still have some questions if anyone would be able to help...

Firstly, at the store i asked the guy if the Vista disc comes with the laptop, he said that it doesn't, that you create a recovery disc which is where vista is placed. I'm not familiar with how the whole disc thing goes with OS, but is this the case for all notebook systems?

Secondly, i took the notebook out and had a look at it, i noticed on the sticker part on the 'back' part of it, it seemed a bit odd

Is that what they all look like? Coz to me it seems like some sticker was taken off...you see the smudge like thing next to the barcodes? Is it just like that?

And also is there supposed to be some sort of covering on the hard drive part, the rest of the 'vents' or openings don't seem to have any covering, the hard drive part does, is that for protection?

And do the stickers on the key board part get off easily? There's this large green one where my left palm rests that juts talks about '5 reasons to chose a hp blah blah' i assume it doesn't matter whether i keep it on or off, but does the colour on these notebooks fade after having your hand there for some time?

One more thing, i saw that Microsoft Office 2007 is already installed on the system, yet when i open it i'm asked for some sort of code, that or i have 25 (around that much) tries of opening it before it becomes limited, if i don't write in some code. Is this supposed to be somewhere, or was i just given a trial?

    Thanks.

The windows sticker is quite normal. Its Microsoft new way of combating piracy by cutting a hole in the sticker near the security ribbon.

As for the office 2007. Yes, HP includes a trial version and key is to activate the trial version for 60 days. The key should be available online through MS or HP should have provided you one. So, unless you plan to buy the particular version of Office 07 uninstall it and use whatever full version of Office software you own.

What about the Vista disc thing people??
I was assuming i'd get some sort of disc...and i was going through a topic earlier about people who bought a range of HP's and someone had pictures of there new one and it had the Vista disc (unless they purchased it separatley which they didn't say) ???

The recovery discs have to burnt by the user, they include the software to do this or you have to purchase them separately from HP. However, they used to bundle a Vista upgrade disc which technically was supposed to be used along with the Anytime upgrade feature in Vista but since the DVD was no different than any other Vista DVD one could do a clean reinstall without all the extra junk software HP loads the systems with. They dont offer these DVD's anymore but you should be able to get them cheap at most computer stores.

In any case burn the set of recovery discs since that will let you get the system back to factory state in the event you want to sell it or deleted the restore partition on the HDD.

I see now...thanks for that miner!
So it's only a Vista upgrade disc.
