This is the first hardware issue that I have... just want to know if you guys can help me with this...

This is what it does... when is in CAPS... it writes in small letters when it doesnt have the CAPS selected it writes in CAPS... now, when im trying to type with the numbers it doesnt... it just gives me the symbols, for example No. 4 is $ so it writes the money thing!!! GAH!! Calling HP Tech Support (well, u know how it is... it does not work... they placed on hold... they hung up on you... yara yara yara....)

Oh, I could not install my Clean VISTA to fix this... I though at first it was a virus... BUT IT IS NOT!! sometimes the keyboard doesnt turn on!!! is madness!!

Oh, when I though it was a virus it gives me a message for Shifty keys... to turn it on or turn it off... Shifty keys? What the heck is that???

I purchased the air press can to clean the keyboard (though it was that, that it was dirty) but... NADA!!!!

I dont know... it feels like one of the shift keys is... like hold... but... how? When im trying to select a file it selects lots of files... is like when you are holding the shift key....

Another thing... when im trying to install again the recovery disk... when is installing the first one... it turns off the machine!! when im trying a clean install with the VISTA DVD... well... it does the same thing... CRAP!!!

Anyway... just want to know if I can fix it without sending the machine to HP...

Is there anybody who has experienced this problem????

Gah! Now I know what it is... the bloody keyboard is damage!!! It looks like one of the shift keys is broken, even though doesnt look like is broken, a tech support (not hp tech support) told me that the keyboard needs to be replaced, even though if he cleans the keyboard is going to be the same problem, the whole keyboard must be replaced!!! and because I am in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the stupid so called "Global Warranty" doesnt exist! My product was purchased directly from HP.com and since this is a product only marketed in the states the warranty only is covered in USA, not latinamerica... this is ridiculous!! I have seen models here in Dom Rep like the DV6243 whatever... and they have the same bloody keyboard... o_O? I dont get it.... oh well... anyway... it looks like I need to get an international warranty for that... (thank you HP) GAH!!

There are places that sell HP replacement keyboards. I have swapped out a keyboard on an older HP and it was pretty simple. The cost was about $45 for the part as I rememeber. You might want to do some Googling.

Control Panel > Ease of Use Center. Look and see if you have "Sticky Keys" turned on. Sticky keys allows someone to press the shift, ctrl, and alt keys and the OS acts like its held down. Good for one handed typing.
