OK, I must say that my #1 PRIORITY above nearly all other factors in my laptop buying decision is the keyboard layout. More specifically, I require that my laptops have a proper INSERT-HOME-PGUP, DELETE-END-PGDN keyblock, like in standard fullsize keyboards. Nearly all Dell laptops now have the correct keyblock on the top right-hand corner.

However, HP/Compaq laptops still use the HOME-PGUP-PGDN-END keys as a single vertical column on the right edge. I hate that!! Lots of people have told me to get used to it, but I use those 6 keys a LOT in my daily work, and it's not that much to ask for them to have a proper keyboard layout.

My conundrum is this: the HP ZT3000 and ZE4900 have the "correct" keyboard layout. I have failed to find any other HP laptops that do. I'm a big fan of HP laptops, and I really want to buy one. Unfortunately, their new dv4000/dv1000 laptops have the wrong keyboard layout, and it really aggravates me. How hard is it to allow consumers to choose the ZT3000 style layout?

So what I really want to know is, does anybody know of any HP models that have the correct layout? None of the models listed right now on the HP shopping website have the correct layout. For those who want to see exactly what I mean:

    CORRECT LAYOUT: http://www.notebookreview.com/assets/3459.jpg

    INCORRECT LAYOUT: http://www.notebookreveiw.com/assets/3667.jpg

I know this isn't a big deal to most of you (since I don't see anybody talking about this topic), but to me it's a HUGE deal. Any advice/help on other HP models with the right layout would be highly appreciated. Thanks!

Maybe the HP layout is correct and the Dell layout is the incorrect one! Hmmmm...

Seriously, though, this is a subjective thing - not a right/wrong, correct/incorrect thing. If you don't like it, vote with your wallet and buy something else...

it also makes sense for manufacutures to make it that way. saves space, and easier design at the expense of very few people who use those keys (including you [ :p]) lol, you just go the bad end of the stick man.

I agree with Peachfuzz, the keyboard is either #1 or #2 in my book as being the most important feature on a notebook. Yup, even ahead of processor performance. Screen is the competitor there for what I believe is also a highly important feature.

I love IBM ThinkPad notebooks mostly because of their keyboards.

In regards to HP, the zd8000 is kind of standard, but even then not totally as the pg-up and pg-dn are not vertically aligned but rather are horizontally:

Yeah abaxter... that keyboard is nice, but a little large for my requirements. I don't really need the numpad, and the PGUP/PDGN keys are horizontally aligned, like you said.

HP does make the proper keyboard layout for some of their laptops though, as I stated in my 1st post. I just wish more of their laptops would use that layout... and/or let consumers have a choice of keyboard layout (like they can choose processor speed).

And yes, I'm the same as abaxter, the keyboard is the #1 most important feature in a laptop for me, above ALL other considerations, including processor, memory, display or even size/weight.

Looks like I'll have to settle for the Dell Inspiron 6000. :( Unless HP releases a laptop with that keyboard soon...
