I just got my L2000 in, and aside from a barely noticeable dead pixel towards the side of the screen, has anyone else noticed that the sound quality, kinda, well, sucks?

Sorry about the Dead Pixel, but as for sound, yes it's not the greatest, but it's still ok. I remember when HP's had JBL pro speakers on them. Nowadays they've gone with Harmon Kardon. I notice that there isn't much depth or any variation in sound, but I kinda like the overall sound to it. Of course it's not Bose or anything. I hardly use the speakers to begin with. I'm more of a headphone kinda guy. A Bose headphone kinda guy :p Some of the higher end HP's sound a lot better though.

Well, you kind of have to use headphones with this one, lol. Not sure what speakers it had, but my ze4401us had pretty good sound.

i have to disagree with you guys on this one. the L2000 built-in altec lansing speakers sound great to me. if you want to hear crappy laptop speakers, try the fujitsu s-series. it honestly sounds like a tin can compared to the L2000.

I agree...the speakers on the L2000 are great compared to most other laptops.

That said, laptop speakers are not known for their sound.

Get the best earphones out there - Future Sonics, and listen to some real sound...

    Sound Quality = Above average
    Sound Volume = Ugh

I hate when notebooks have the speakers placed on the front like that. Whoever decided that people need speakers pointing directly at their belly is a nut, and combine that with a fairly low volume then it makes it rough to enjoy a movie without seperate speakers or headphones.

Yes, i know that its its a smaller notebook and we should all have headphones blah blah blah. Im just complaining because we were watching a movie on it last night and while the screen made it look fantastic, the sound hurt the experience.

I would agree; having them in the front does not work as well.

Ideally, they are in the monitor, or at the base of the monitor.

i have the same problem with the sound.. im not complaining becuase the sound doesnt matchup to my 5.1 home theater surround sound. im complaining because at times it sounds rediculous. i listen to music alot and at a certain low frequency the speakers sounds blown. i fixed the problem once by uninstalling and installing another sound driver from HP (made for another model laptop, DV1250z). the speakers sounded the way altec lansing speakers should sound like.

recently i reformatted my computer with the original sound driver, and not to my surprise, the sound was horrible again. however this time i tried to swap sound drivers again it doesnt work.

I upgraded to the latest drvier according to Windows Update and the distortion of low tones has gone (I think).
