ok, this is the strangest problem I've ever had with any of my computers.
I installed the Sims2 and I run it and it works all fine and dandy. Then I go to install University, and the laptop won't recognize the disk. It makes pleanty of noise, but it claims there's nothing there. I though maybe it was just some weird freak thing with the disk, but then, the other day, I go to copy my back to the future CD, just a plain old ordinary music CD, and it doesn't like that one either. Both disks are in perfect condition and all my other DVDs, CDs, CD-ROMs, etc... work fine with it. I've even made a nice little DVD with it. Just those two disks, or three because the University is actually two disks and it didn't like either one. Anyone have any idea what's going on???

Huh, at first it sounded like a disk problem, but since it's ahving trouble with a few it has to be drive related. I assume the disks work okay in other computers? If so, contact support to see what your options are.
-
turns out it won't read any music CDs or CD-ROMs. I just assumed it did because it was for a long time. it still has no problem with DVDs. Dunno what's up with it

IIRC, there are separate lasers for CD and DVD in the drive. The CD one (or something else that's CD-specific) must be broken. (That's why the upcoming Blu-ray drives won't support CDs, three lasers would be a bit too crowded.) Like Brian said, time to contact HP.

Says right on Blu-Ray.com, it will support read/write of CDs.

Hmm... must have just been the one drive I read about, and I can't find the link for that now. Most of the Blu-ray drives on blu-ray.com clearly have the CD logo.
