    Hello all,

I bought an HP laptop (d6 series I believe) back in June, and I've been having some issues with it lately.

The laptop's LCD has (what the FS tech's called it at least) "light bleeding". Basically, on the left and right edges of my laptop the screen is faded, kind of orange and pink tinted as well. The best way to see this is using Excel, you can see the lines on the cell grid fade as they get closer to the screen. It's not really a huge deal as far as usability is concerned, but I bought their extended warranty (I know...never again now that I realized my Visa has one) and I figure I may as well get it fixed (especially since I want to sell it and get a smaller laptop).

Anyways, they're telling me it's pressure damage, which I KNOW isn't true. I treat my laptop well, and I had an LG for 3 years that was treated way worse with no signs of damage to the screen. My personal opinion is that it's more likely heat damage. The laptop gets very hot (which is HP's fault, not mine), and I think that may be what's doing it to the LCD. Has anyone else experienced this? My laptop has been shipped to HP for them to take a look, but I feel like they will probably try and get out of fixing it if they can (seeing as FS has already done so). If they return it back and tell me its my fault, any ideas what I should do? I know this isn't physical damage caused by me, and I don't want to have to pay for a new screen because HP built a laptop that is cooking itself. Should I go yell at FS (I think I'd need some factual backup for this...) or just skip around and see if my credit card will cover the warranty?

Any ideas would be helpful. I'm pretty furious at FS right now, I'm sick of them trying to tell me I'm wrong.

Best of luck with everything. I'm no screen expert, but usually excess pressure leads to bright spots in the screen, not an even fade or discoloration. My friend has a dell that's been through the works and it has a bunch of pressure spots that look identical to the ones I had on my old laptop. My point is that I highly doubt pressure does what you described.

Since it is customer service and not the repair technicians themselves, I'd say give them hell--as politely as possible.

That seems fair. The pressure spots...do they get brighter with white light (as in they're more intense than areas around them)? If so, that's definitely not this. This seems more washed out and like a different colour is tinting over top of the screen.

That's definitely pressure of sorts... You can see clearly where the screen was pressed too hard along the edges. I'm sorry you had to replace it, though that seems like a pretty good price for a screen!

Sidenote: What is the sticker on your laptop? Is that a PIII?

Yeah you're describing pretty well what I was talking about. They're bright patches that are most noticeable in brighter background.
Your screen problem doesn't really sound like pressure to me, but maybe it is. I'm no expert.

Razor: That's most definitely not what happened to mine. IT was more a fading of colours and replacing with the orangey/pink tint. It didn't hit right on the edges like that, it more radiated near the sides (it's sort of hard to describe). If you have a piece of graph paper, and start trying to erase the lines...it kind of dulls out and fades a bit. That's what I could see on my screen when I opened excel. The colours seem to wash out a bit.

From past experience on these forums, they won't return it unfixed without a cost. They'll most likely make you pay for them to return it unfixed or have it fixed with them for some high cost.

Let us know what happens when you call up. If you believe it is a quality issue, then plead your case. Don't give in if you know it is an HP quality defect.

I got it from Futureshop and they sent it off, there was no mention of whether or not it would cost me anything, so I'll be damned if I give them a penny back. I'll let you know what happens.

As for the link to HP's website, it doesn't look like any of those.
