    Hey Everyone

Bought a broken C700 off ebay which had a cracked LCD. I refurbish systems for a living so definately know what im doing.

I had a replacement LCD already which i knew was compatible (Same Cable connection type , same resolution , same size , same backlight type with inverter) etc

I replaced the screen , reassembled the laptop and strangely enough encountered the "Compaq" boot screen but it was very dim. I had to shine a torch on it to see it! The laptop just got stuck at this then shut down again. There was some error text in the bottom right corner which i could just make out with the torch but not well enough to read what it said! (Helpfully)

Ive tried all sorts of things and am honestly at my wits end! So anyone on here with some suggestions would be most welcome

Ive replaced the LCD panel with a known working one.

Reseated all the video cable connections.

    Replaced the video cable.

Replaced the inverter with a known working one.

And still the same problem! Which is really odd because i know a dim display means broken backlight or inverter and ive replaced both with known-working ones! Ive also tried the obvious Fn keys to increase brightness without success.

    Thanks in Advance!!

Have you tried to replace inverter cable? usually same as the LCD cable itself but sometimes separate.

    Try these....

    1. Take out the hard drive from the computer and place it is a safe place... then take a refrigerator magnet and run it up and down the left hand side of the palmrest next to the keyboard. the way this computer detects whether the LCD is closed is there is a magnet in the LCD and a sensor on the motherboard. that is this computer form of a dim switch.... this is a long shot but is easy to test.

    2. Does the backlight on the original LCD come on when you have it installed in the computer? if is does plug in your new LCD to just the data cable (one on the back) and plug the backlight from the old cracked lcd into the inverter and see if it still comes on... If it does you have a bad backlight in the new LCD. If the backlight works with the cracked LCD pluged in and you just move the data cable to the new LCD and the backlight no longer works you have a non-compatible LCD. The computer has to "detect" a LCD in order for it to turn on the backlight. just because it is displaying does not mean that is "detecting" the LCD correctly.

    Thanks
