Hi Again,
There is a lot of talk in the x1000forum about the what type of LCD screens are coming on the zt3000/x1000. Personally, it does not matter to me whether it is a Hitachi, Samsung or LG. As long as it looks good, is functioning properly, and has no dead pixels. I guess I don't see what the fuss is about. If your unit is shipped with the undesired Hitachi screen but it works and no dead pixels, is there a reason to worry? Is this screen going to go bad before the others (Samsung, LG, or ?)? IMHO, The other screens may be crisper, etc, but I can not see returning a machine just based on an unwanted screen. Plus there is no guarantee you will get a 'better' one when you order the new one. I figure you could get a new notebook with a Samsung screen ( the quote better one), but it has one or more dead pixels. What did you gain, except another headache.
In any event, my question comes down to making the screen you have crisper in its native resolution. Mine (I do not the brand, but works fine and no dead pixels that I know of) seems a little on the grainy or maybe fuzzy side. It is at its native resolution. I don't know if the viewing angle could be the problem. When it is sitting farther back, it looks crisper. However, when on my lap, it looks grainier or somewhat fuzzy. I looked in the screen properties and there appears to be nothing to adjust its sharpness. I know how to adjust the sharpness on a monitor. How do you do it on a notebook? Any suggestions?
Thank you in advance.

You are completely correct about the brand of LCD being used in the notebooks. You should just stick with the LCD you got unless there's an actual problem. Returning the unit and trying to get a Samsung or LG or what have you, is probably just gonna drive the cost of the units up or just make HP match cheaper components together (AMD64 & Go 440 GPU). And, as you stated, you might get something worse in the end.
Regarding the fuzziness problem, as long as the resolution is at max (native res), then the image quality should be fine. Also, make sure the fonts size is set to default size in Display Properties. Changing the size may also may the fonts look grainy. When sitting on your lap, as long as you have the LCD angled within the viewing angle limits, the screen should again be clear. There is no way to increase sharpness on a notebook LCD.

Thanks again VB. Yes, I discovered tonight that if it is at a certain angle, it looks better. I just have to figure that angle each time I sit down to use it in the different positions.
Boy, notebooks are sure different creatures from desktops. However, I love the mobility.[8D]
Thanks again. -
General rule to get the "sweet spot" on the LCD, is to have the LCD panel perfectly parallel to the angle of your head. Your eyes, when looking straight, should be looking at the center of the screen. This will give you the best viewing angle for LCD's.
It definitely takes getting used to, especially if this is your first notebook or LCD screen.
