    Hi everyone,

    I have a dv9500 with the 1440 X 900 LCD display, running with the NVidia 8600m GS.

Is it possible to upgrade this display to a higher resolution? Has anyone in the forum done it?

After approximately 2 months use, my LCD has started to show a faint white marking in a particular localized region of the screen. It only shows up on a plain white screen, or very light colours. If dark colours are displayed close to the mark it disappears. Has anyone had this problem? I cannot really afford to send this computer into HP right now to be fixed as I am a student and I need this computer all the time.

    Thanks!

It's definately able to be replaced, but it's going to cost you. Not to mention it's going to be a warranty voider.

It will be very expensive to replace the LCD screen on the laptop. I've taken a DV6000z apart before, and it's not terribly hard to take off the LCD screen, but as Lithus said, it will void your warranty (probably on the entire laptop) and it will be very pricey.

If its only 2 months old, it should still be under warranty, unless you bought it used and have only had it 2 months.

He states that he doesn't want to send it in because he is a student and can't go without the laptop for however long it will take HP to fix it.

You might want to think about having HP fix the laptop over a break or something. If the problem is really not that bad and you obviously seem like you can wait, then just send it in over a holiday break or something.

Thanks guys, maybe I will have to wait for a break to send it in... or just live with it. I did not notice this during the first few weeks I was running this machine.

Researching online I found some info stating that these white marks can be caused by excess pressure on the surface of the screen. Perhaps mine has been like this since day one. It's really not that noticable, but if it's a defect that can be fixed under warranty I will take advantage of it.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

You could buy one to 'try out' at your local Best Buy while yours is being fixed by HP. Just return it before the return/exchange period is up.

And pay a 15% restocking fee.

Is that how it works in the USA? In Canada, there is no restocking fee at Best Buy.

If you open the product at BestBuy there is a 15% restocking fee, but if the product breaks during the return period you can get your money back without a restocking fee, and of course if you buy it and don't open it you don't get charged either.

I experienced this with the first laptop I ever purchased, luckily it broke so I got all my money back from BestBuy and ordered a better one from HP for the same price.

HP has a great return policy, I mean how many people offer you to try the notebook for 21 days to see if you like it, and if you don't you return it and get all your money back (except if you paid for the 2 day shipping, which by the way is a complete waste of money).

Haha not only is the Canadian dollar stronger, but our stores have better return policies....

Actually the Canadian dollar is worth less than the US dollar. Look it up.
