It's time to buy a new notebook. My current laptop is Sony VAIO with Xbright screen (the glossy screen). I would like to switch to Dell/HP. However, after visiting Bestbuy today I found that Dell/HP (truelife/brightview) screen is somewhat less vivid than what I have.
In SONY VAIO, there are 2 type of Xbrite LCD:
1. Regular XBrite (this is what I have) -- people says it uses 2 bulbs.
Which is clearer, higher contrast, the grass will look greener, color is more vivid when viewing using this type.
2. Xbrite-ECO -- people says it uses 1 bulb.
It's also glossy screen, but the contrast is not that good as if there is another layer on the screen --> and this is what I found on Dell/HP.
In SONY they tell buyer whether they'll get XBrite or Xbrite-ECO. In Dell/HP, it just says Truelife/Brightview. I don't want to get screen with 1 bulb (ECO).
Can somebody help which Dell/HP notebook has 2 bulb screen?

Sony have the best notebook screens. I dont think you will find any better or equal. Have a look at the dell XPS with LED's
btw HP 14-15" only have a max res of 1280x800 -
You can always switch out the screen. I'm planning to do this with my 17" laptop. 1680x1050 -> 1920x1200.
-
Switch the screen? That will mean I need to add more $$ for the labor...
-
The new HP Pavilion dv5 series that is coming out will have a WSXGA+ high-definition monitor option now...up to a 1680x1050 resolution.
-
Yeah if you want HP then wait for the dv5 series. Sweet graphics and sweet resolution.
Don't upgrade the screen yourself if you dont' know what you're doing. I'm thinking of upgrading, but I'm dead scared lol! -
Here it goes:
Sony uses to apply two sorts of CCFL backlight in FZ and A series named:
1.ECO,meaning single bulb below TFT,
2.HiColor with two bulbs, one just above and another one below TFT,much brighter but not as power-friendly as ECO.
The terms "Xbrite/Truelife/BrightView" and others concern additional polarizing filter layered upon TFT called "glossy" apparently to those screens lacking such a filter, called "matte".
You can easily find here
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XBRITE
more complex explanation.
However, it does have nothing common either with backlight or the resolution of given screen.
Sorry,but I can't help on Dell/HP respective screens backlight. -
so my hp 15.4 screen with 1680x1050 is a freak ??
-
I would say if you are planning on purchasing an HP and don't need the laptop right now, wait until the new lineup is out, you'll be glad you waited.
-
I will definitely wait for the DV5. But:
1. DV5 is 15.4" with WSXGA+ 1680x1050.
Do you think this 1680 resolution is just too high on 15.4? Anyone can share experience here? I am afraid 1680 res will just simply kill my eyes.
2. Which HP laptop has 2 bulbs backlight? -
no , 1680x1050 is fine . i have no trouble with my 50 year old eyes . big icons large font and i'ts very clear

If you upgrade to the Ultra HP Brightview display on the dv9700, it comes with the dual bulb setup. However, the only resolution available for that kind of setup is 1440 x 900. But, the brightness and colors of the display are definitely something to consider.
-
go with the ultra bright view. 1440x900 is the perfect resolution for a 15.4" anyway
LCD type on HP notebook? HELP. Will buy new HP ASAP.
