Does anyone know if and when HP might introduce LED backlit screenm and how much improvement in terms of battery life one can expect over a standard screen. I'm wondering if I should wait for LED screen or buy a laptop right now with a std. screen.

From anecdotal evidence based on what I've seen, I would say you will be able to get 5-10% more in battery life.

That doesn't seem to be worth all the hoopla, does it?

the quality in this type of screen is also better, its brighter and more crisp. Such as the Blacks are pure black on the display and not dark gray on most LCDs or something like that.

I'm also wondering when LED is coming to HP.. like the pavilions.. there was rumors of it coming around in the 3rd Quarter earlier this year or the 4th quarter. But anyone know what the odds of that happening by late august?

LED backlights are in the 2510p (12.1")... but no idea when they'll hit the consumer line. 2510p is available for purchase but I don't think it's shipping yet.

If HP brings LED screens to the Pavilion notebooks by September, that would be great. They should be thinking back to school!

I was chatting with a HP representative and she told me that all current HP and compaq notebooks have LED screen, can someone who has it confirm this. I was asking the repesentative about how to find out if it has LED or not and she told there no way to find out under device manager or somewhere else. I am just curious about it, because on HP website it doesnot say anywhere that it has LED screen.
Also, which other brands currently offer LED screen.

HP reps don't know more than what's on the HP website. If you ask them anything, they will go online and find the information on the website.

I guess the representative was confused about LED backlit and LCD display. I was asking them about LED screen and they were telling me about an indicator light to let you know if the system is on or off. I chat with 3 reps but none of them knew what LED screen is. Anyway, I dont think HP has any LED screen, as per their web site. I guess Dell is offering LED screen, any idea if Sony or Toshiba has one?

Sony and Toshiba has LED screens but it's on their high end units. LED is getting passe before it's even out.. OLED is in the works.

It would be nice to have LED Backlit screens soon, but like usual we won't really know for sure when it will come out until a few days before it will hit the market.

They're having trouble producing the screens, I remember reading a story a couple months back on Anandtech. There going to be really expensive when they come out and its not gonna be for a while most likely 3-5 yrs

3-5 years is not that far off. It'll be here before you know it. Sony introduced it with their flex screen but it originated in the UK. I wonder if Sony had a big hand with it's funding/research.
