    LEFT MOUSE BUTTON PROBLEM

I am having a strange problem with my dv5t's left mouse button, and wonder if anyone else has had this problem. The left mouse button doesn’t work on all links – it works on most of them, but not all. When I click on those links nothing happens. It’s as if I have clicked on blank paper.

I have the Synaptics PS/2 mouse and touchpad, and have gone into Mouse Pointers and reconfigured every conceivable iteration, but nothing seems to help. I have also downloaded new mouse drivers, but that hasn’t helped either. This is my 2nd dv5t, and I had the exact same problem with the 1st one, so that makes me think this is something inherent to this model. Even tech support is baffled. Can anyone help?

You should try to uninstall Synaptics program from Add/Remove program, then uninstall the touchpad from device manager and reboot.
Let the system detect your touchpad and install driver. It may work as your driver was corrupted. If it doesn't work, you have to replace the touchpad assembly.

Thanks beut, but uninstalling/reinstalling the Synaptics program didn't work, and I really, really don't want to have to send this laptop back to HP for a touchpad replacement. I just spent 6 weeks dealing with having to replace my 1st dv5t, and the thought of going through that again is horrific!!! Does anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions, please??? Anything would be appreciated!

I have a similar problem with an elitebook 8530w, randomly the left click doesn't work, I have to click the right click various times to recover the focus and be able to use the left click. The problem is the same with ubuntu and windows vista, is very strange, because with and external mouse I have the same error.

You guys wouldn't happen to be using Mozilla Firefox when this happens? Specifically version 3.0? There's known issues with focusing with that version. Try Internet Explorer and see if the problem still occurs.
