Also, how's the screen, is it adequate to view 4-5hours? Battery life? I have a desktop so this machine would be strictly for traveling and out and about when i need to work on the go.

The battery life with the standard 6 cell battery will be mediocre, around 2 to 2.5 hours. You can get the optional 12 cell battery for around 5 hours of battery life.

Check out Costco.com , if your a member you can get a refurbed with a 1.8 Turion 64 Processor with the same specs you listed for $799. They come and go so if you see it grab one.

oh really? thanks. I'll definately keep my eyes open. Do you know how often costco updates their site to list new laptops? Also, does the 12 cell battery stick out? I'm thinking of purchasing second battery though ebay since it's a lot cheaper.

I'm a graphic designer, I constantly use Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2 and Flash. Although my computer has been upgraded, even at it's original spec, it was able to handle everything I did on it when plugged in.. I was running 1.7Ghz with 1GB RAM prior to this on my dv1000, The L2000 should be an equal or better performer...

thanks. just what i needed to know. does battery life to you make that much of a difference as I was pondering getting an additional 12 cell battery through ebay, although I don't know if the 12 cell sticks out. How's the weigth of the laptop?

Sive and weight of the L2000 is just right, IMO. Not sure of the 12 cell battery but I heard it sticks out the back slightly and more on the bottom. I checked Costco every day and it would show up once a week? I swung by the business center and they had 4 in stock. Best of all I have a 6 month return policy. I was going to get the new Dell XPS M140 priced at $1152 shipped to my door. Only problem is I having a hard time letting go of this L2000.

Yes, unfortuantely for me at least, the 12 cell battery does stick out and lifts the back of the notebook a bit. Some say this is actually good as it makes typing on the keyboard better ergonomically.

Here's a picture of a DV1000 with the 12 cell battery so you can tell what it will be like to have it on your L2000.

I have the 12 cell in my dv4000 and yes it does stick out like in the picture above. It is somewhat annoying when on your lap because it isnt running all the way across the back of the laptop .. only the right side. Other then that I like it for the angle it provides typing and it also seems to help the heat in that the fan is not directly on a surface now it is 1 inch above.

but the xps m140 doesn't have a very good video card, so why would i trade that for the L2000. Also the L2000 comes with 1GB of memory and a standard, 5200 HD

how much extra time does the 12cell give? is it double the length, so roughly 4-5 hours? plus since i'm warm blooded, i figured, having the notebook away from the lap would make for less sweat stains on the laptop itself

Yes, it will give you twice the amount of battery life, which is from 4-5 hours.
