    Your post are always so helpful! You are doing something wrong I get 2.5-3 hours of battery life easy. It's a common belief that Dell is a cheaper brand that isn't designed well. I'm sure the Dell forum will be happy to have you.

    glad we have the naughty word filter on. I know plenty of people happy with the R3000T so maybe there is something wrong with the particular machine you have regarding the battery issue.

    nice config fishcube. i have the EXACT same hardware as u but with xp pro. and i also love mine and can get at least 2.5 hours of battery life on it. IF its only getting 1 hour of batter life somethings definitely wrong...unless your gaming or have 100% cpu usage the whole time (b/c of a virus maybe) but yeah...these notebooks have wayyyyyyy better build quality than the dell i8600 imho.

    My zt3000 is great too. I get 3+ hours of battery life. I think it was shortened trying to sync my PDA via the infrared port. However, I still got over 3 hours. The build quality of the zt3000 seems solid to me, no noticeable flex as I am handling it normally. So far my HP has worked great for me.

    I have a Compaq Presario R3240CA and even with the wireless turned on and about 80% brightness, I can pull in about 2.5 hours. Maybe your battery is defective.

    I don't know of a single notebook whose battery life is that short, maybe the acer with the desktop drive. That is really abnormal, return it if you can. Was battery life the only problem?

    GPU cooling (100°C->75°C)* Inspiron 8600 * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo (337/242 -> 400/300) * 2x512 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * Aquamark 3: 24058 * 3DMark'03: 3404 * 3DMark'01 SE: 13120

    I have HP zx5000 P4 and my battery time is only 2-hrs. (I have a 12-cell battery and I’m using only wireless internet and some MS Excel). So I was not happy even I want to return my notebook but I called HP tech and I complained, they said no problem you may have a defective battery and they promise to send re-placement battery. I ordered on
    Aug-23 and I received to day on Sep-1. Now I’m charging my new battery and hopefully to night I’ll test and will see new usage time.
    If the battery is the only problem I will suggest to call HP/Compaq and complain I’m sure they don’t want to lose the sale.
    Regards
