I have my Compaq hooked up to my TV via S-Video and it looks pretty sharp. Well the desktop looks like crap, but when outputting divx on my TV it looks good. But the sound sucks!

After some farting around it turns up that if I plug my notebook into the wall, that the speakers I have get a lot of interference and sound like crap. So in order for me to out put any audio, I need to be running on my 6 cell.

I'm not sure that there is a fix for this. But if anyone could let me know how to fix this that would be GREAT!

BTW I am using the Creative DTS-100 decoder to hook up my notebook to my 27" wega and Creative GigaWorks S750 7.1 sound system.

For TV/SAT/VHS/DVD the sound is great. It's only my notebook that I have an issue with.

Oh also... the sound doesn’t seem like its feed out at a constant level. Some times it’s nearly silent (dialog), but action scenes are GREATLY amplified.

    Thanks

Is the sound your are experiencing a humming sound ?

If so, I've had the exact same problem with any VCR (watching cable tv) combined with any amplifier. Works fine with a VHS cassette, or a DVD. There is a grounding problem related to the cable and the ground of the house. No idea how to fix it, I've been told that I should try to isolate the grounds of the amplifier and the demodulating device (the vcr) with a 1:1 transfo or one of those ups that do not directly connect you to the AC line (the APC charges the battery, and you draw your power from the battery instead of the "cheaper" switching from AC to the battery power when power is bad)

I'm relating to the fact that your problem disapear when you are running on batteries. You could try using a UPS, or at least a good power bar for your audio/video equipments !
