    I have a HP Pavillion ZV6000 with Windows XP. Whenever I close the lid while running, it crashes. I mean the Blue Screen of Death...every time. I've tried a varity of different settings in power management, but the result is always the same. Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks for your help.

    Try updating your chipset and video drivers from HP's support site. You may also want to be sure every available Windows Update has been installed.

    Thanks Thain - All Windows updates are good. However, I will look for new video drivers but not sure how to update the chipset. Thanks again....Z01

    @Zircle:

    Updating the chipset is just installing a driver. It should be labeled as "chipset" on HP's site.

    I'm not sure if the video driver will help since you seem to have a problem with your stand-by function. I would say reinstall Windows (takes 40 min, no formatting) and there's a good chance your problem will go away. Most often, when Standby causes problems, it is because of a program running in the background. However, if the computer is set to go to Hibernation when you close the lid (that is the Hibernation is causing problems) this might be an indicator of a HDD or RAM problems, which might require some more detailed examination.

    You'd be surprised how often a wonky video driver can contribute to standby issues. You may not have noticed, but the standby feature is frequently greyed out if the computer does not have a video driver installed (e.g., it's running off of Windows drivers).

    I certainly appreciate all the thoughts. I went to HP and updated every driver and presto, still the blue screen returns. Maybe I'll try the Windows reinstall. Although, I can live with it the way it is, it would just be nice to have it work correctly. Thanks again..........
