I have a Compaq 2190US. Everything Works great, but at about 5-7% the laptop not matter what I do will go into standby. I turn all the options off, for Hybernate, and all the warnings off. It just does it no matter what. I have reinstalled the OS and recalibrated the battery many times. But it always goes there by it self not matter what. Any way to stop this?

are there any power settings in the bios that might be causing this, I wonder?

OH - I see...when the battery gets low it goes into standby. That sounds like a 'feature' more than a problem. I'd be surprised if there is not some way to turn it off (perhaps a registry setting), but were it me, I'd prefer that behavior. If you disable it and forget to recharge before it runs out for some reason, that could be bad.

It may be I would rather it go all the way down, as the % meter in windows is not always acurate.

try this: right click on the power icon (either the battery or the plug) in the system tray and then left click on "adjust power properties". This should bring up the Power options properties window. Then go to the alarms tab. Here you can either activate or deactivate the alarms and change what happens when they go off by clicking on the "Alarm Action" button and change when they go off.
