Hi everyone, I got a new problem( ya.. my bad luck)
My mom was using my Laptop today to browse the web and *somehow* a Trojan got in(Parents using your laptop... heh :/ ) So when she asked me to come look at what's going on I saw a "Microsoft Security Essentials Alert" which after some research turned out to be a Fake that will try to trick you into downloading more "Fake Anti-Viruses".... everything was unstable My Norton Anti-Virus was reporting continuous attacks from an IP "1.1.1.1;80".. any program that I tried to open The Trojan(as a fake Microsoft thing) would close it quick and say it's a virus... even opening Task manager would close and the Fake Microsoft would say it was closed cuz it was a Virus.. so i tried to Restart to Safe mod.... and even with that it Didn't load and just Opened the Fake window again!!
Moving on... I said that maybe a System restore would do the trick... now here's the thing... I Restored it to an earlier date.... restarted but here's a new problem... every time I start up the Laptop.. on the main HP screen it always says on the bottom left Corner "Prepare boot to OS" and I didn't even click anything yet.... it goes to the System Restore screen.. which since I already did what I needed.. I simply clicked Cancel and wait for the restart... after that.. AGAIN at the HP screen it does the same thing.... I tried to keep clicking F8 to get to the options menu but with that my Laptop goes to a blank screen and Stalls with a Beeping noise for a few secs!!
btw.. I have an HP pavillion Dv-5 Vista 32-bit
Can someone please give me any ideas how to fix this?![]()
otherwise it might look like I'm gonna have to format it again!(check my posts)
Any Assistance shall be greatly appreciated!
Best Regards
Raficoo.

Norton sucks, I'd suggest installing something like nod32
running in safe-mode if you have to and performing a full scan
else you can always format
Edit: if you are good with computers
you can download a bootable linux or windows xp and try removing the virus manually
i'd still suggest nod32 though -
I would say recover/backup data and settings, ensure they are clean by running multiple anti-viruses (not at the same time) and then do a clean install, and install a better firewall/antivirus (such as kaspersky, nod, avira, or avast)

Do a clean install and don't use Norton

Once those 'virus scanning' rouge software infects your system it going to be difficult to get rid of even if you do a system restore. Some of those files mask themselves as legit MS files and can't be detected by antivirus programs. Even going into safe mode will not cure the problem. The only way is to do a clean install.
Laptop always "Prepare boot to OS"!!
