    Hi,

I have a dv9715nr and this thing gets pretty hot, and not while playing movies or games, just during regular web browsing and such. I noticed that there are 2 vents on the upper left side of the laptop, one on the side and one under, and they weren't making any noise or cooling.

Could the cooling system be broken?

Take a look at the cooling central. In that thread, you will find links on how to monitor your temps as well as ways to cool down your notebook.

If your fans are not working, then you will your laptop will shut down(safety measure).

Be sure to flash in the current BIOS if you haven't done so since they tweaked it to run the fan 24x7.
