Hey guys, this laptop is from a friend of a friend and well as you can see, the laptop has suffered a huge accident (it fell down from a second floor). It has no warranty. Half of the screen works, the optical drive is al broken and bent. The computer crashes with a bsod while it is loading windows. Do you think that it will work ok If I replace the lcd and optical drive and get a new case?? Or should I just tell him to buy a new or used one?? I havent opened it up to see if there is anything else damaged inside, but I will soon.

I am surprised the hard drive didnt die....

Get all the data off that hard drive...now. The drive might not last much longer either with that kind of shock...I'm sure you exceeded its tolerance for violence.
There is no saving that laptop...too much damage, too many unknowns.
P.S.: I've always wanted to do that...any videos? -
It will most likely cost more to purchase the parts for repair than it is to just get a new notebook.
There might be other internal damage, especially to the system board.
You can dismantle the laptop and sell the undamaged parts, like the keyboard to retrieve some value out of it. -
Yea judging by those pics, i doubt you'll get the laptop working again.
-
Gotta love the carnage though...

The_Observer 9262 is the best:)
Probably you can get a new laptop for the price of parts.Repairing is not worth it.MOBO would also have been damaged.
PS:How did it happen? -
I'd happily take the Lightscribe case sticker if you can somehow get it off.
It's a priced commodity that you can't get anywhere except at the Quanta/Wistron production lines.
-
Just a trivial question,
How exactly did this happen?
Just by looking at the outside photos, thats about $400 of cosmetic damages already. Internal damages will probably bump it up higher. No chance of reviving that notebook.
Im suprised it didnt explode the moment you turned it on -
Kind of reminds me of the time I saw a customer-custom-ordered-and-just-delivered computer in Best Buy that had been run over by the delivery truck. You could actually see a little of the tire tread. -
Awesome visuals....too bad it wasn't a dell instead though
I say just get a new notebook. -
you should take out as many working parts as you can and sell em
-
Yeah...I know which seller to avoid now. Seriously...you'll be lucky if ANYTHING works. Motherboard is shot, screen is shot, drive is most likely going to be shot.
You might save the RAM and/or CPU...that is it. Then scrap the heatsinks for money. -
LMAO......
I'll upload more pictures of this laptop either tonight or tomorrow.... I will also open it up and take more pictures for your viewing pleasure... lol.....
Right now I am going to have to back up that hard drive asap -
I think E-mail's enabled on my end from the forums. -
lol, you are sadistic Greg

Kind of reminds me of the day my laptop came back from HP repair.
