So i've got lappy with i7 (2000) and ati 6770. I'm watching movie via VLC with HW acceleration. And after some time (always different period) laptop freezes.

It also freezes sometimes when i'm launching games.

Thinking and monitoring situation i understood that this happens when videocard is switching clocks on gpu and memory. Cause while you are watching movie, gpu load is always different so its constantly changing clocks. Same happens when you are launching game, first there are no load, then, on logo, its smth medium and in game you have max load. Laptop never freezes while its on max load and not changing clocks, so i could play skyrim for hours and everything is ok.

Also, when i locked clocks on max value all freezes were gone.

Any ideas? I'm on official HP driver. Same happens on latests 12.3 catalyst.

Are you running with factory loaded programs not including the bloatware they installed? Have you tried to load with a older driver to see if the problem persist with a old older driver? Is your catalyst driver a standalone offline installer that you downloaded and installed and used not from HP?

I would say down grade your driver to a older release driver not beta drivers and see if the problem doesn't persist with a older driver?? It seems like the newest drivers isn't able to handle the switch graphics mode. Have you check to see if there isn't any kinda of recall or warranty repair announcements from the company?
