Hi, after spending many, many hours on the phone to HP tech support, my Pavilion dv6095ea is going in for a service under the HP Limited Warranty Service Enhancement program, due to the Broadcom wireless very rarely working. The bloke on the phone said that depending on the model, the wireless card and/or the mainboard would be replaced, if the wireless was built on the mainboard. I know the wireless is seperate on my laptop, but was wondering how I would tell what exactly they have replaced, when I receive it back?

Yes, they will include a letter that will have a section labeled "Parts Replaced". There will be a part number and a description for each part. You can usually tell what it is from the description.

If they replace the mainboard, will it be a different one does anyone know? I'm just thinking that the copy of Vista OEM that i bought, might pop up needing reactivating.

It probably depends on the servicer. I just had my notebook repaired for not being able to turn on. On the Customer Receipt I received with the repaired notebook in the "Detailed Information On Your Repair" the "System Board" block had a check mark by it under "The Following Items Were Repaired / Replaced:" That was all the information provided about the repair. I had to call HP Total Care to find out exactly what was done as I wanted to know if the System Board was replaced or repaired. After giving them the service ticket number I was informed they replaced the system board due to the former having some soldering connection problems.

HP no longer "repairs" systemboards. Any faulty parts, including the systemboard is now replaced with a new part. It is much faster and cost-effective to do so. You don't expect the techs to solder electronic components these days as the size and precision of these components no longer makes that cost-effective.

The parts cost HP next to nothing, so they will replace it as much as they can.

I can confirm that they replace motherboards. Mine was replaced, and the new one had a Geforce 7200 go instead of the intel 945GMA that I originally had (even though there was no problem with it)

I send my 4 months "old" dv9500t" because the display panel stays "black" but the laptop booths with an external monitor.
It has been there 8 days and yesterday I got a call from a Qnanta Computer Center in CA from a person that could hardly speak English and with no tech background according to him ..that they would not be able to fix the computer because it has no certified HP ram ( have upgraded the ram to 4GB) and they need to sell me HP ram before they could work on it and I also would loose the warranty otherwise..

I told them to you their ram fin or repair and put mine back when they are done.. the fellow did not get it. I called HP Customer service and got a another person who could hardly speak English but after 30 min repeating the story 5x she was nice enough to tell them to fix the problem with the ram that's in there.

O boy ..I wonder who is working in that repair center...according to google search is a collection repair center for almost all the pc brands..Dell Gateway.

I would be nice to read other repair experiences :)

    Most important of all..

TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE YOU SEND IT IN!

HP is notorious for beating the hell out of systems in their hands. So be sure to get a photographic record of the condition its in before you send it in for repair.

I thought I would update you. I got my laptop back today, no marks at all!
The motherboard and DVD Drive(?) have both been replaced, and they have updated the bios to F.3E. I thought F.3D was the latest though, or am I being used as a guinea pig for a new bios?!
