I have a HP dv1420ca, and it always run at 45+ degrees celcius and the place where my palm touches the computer when i type feels considerably hotter than before.
I say before becuase I have only bought this laptop for less than a year. The DVD rom has stopped working as well.
Anyways, I dunno if its just summer or there is something wrong with the computer. the temperature stays around 45 degrees, but i don' t think it has gone up higher than that.
So is it overheating or are my hands just too sensitive![]()

45 C must be your over ran HD. Left Palm right?
Does your HD constantly run? -
you might try to run less intensive apps.
thats kind of a weird thing to say, so a more reasonable solution is to get a chill-mat (a fan base that sits below your notebook)
another thing you can do is get a USB fan if the chill mat is too cumbersome.
a really powerful way of controlling your heat would be looking into undervolting your CPU. It can be risky if you do not know what you are getting into. -
Hmm...can you use MobileMeter (Google it) to check your processor temperature, especially during intensive tasks? If it's your processor hovering at 45C, it isn't a problem - heck, it's actually great - but if your HDD stays at those temps that's not good. If your processor is above ~60C idling, you're also in trouble. And if your computer shuts down while very hot, send it in for warranty repairs while you can.
Also, you should get that DVD drive fixed - HP has a huge problem with faulty optical drives, maybe if enough people actually take them up on the warranty replacements they'll use quality components and stop wasting everyone's time. -
Ambient temperature influences a lot the temperature of the laptop (so yes the summer could be a reason
. I use a cooling pad and it wokrs great with those 14 inche machines, I recommend this method.
Laptop overheating problem?
