Alright so I installed the wrong drivers on my ati 5650 at first, I had 1.07 or something. My screen went blank and crazy, and blacked out. I had to hard shut it off like 20 times to get the screen to work again, finally it worked and i quickly unistalled my video card and wiped it with driver sweeper.. I proceeded to install the driver micgoogle provided me which are ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp49001-49500/sp49450.exe ..
I installed them and everything worked great.. Then all sudden my video card kept crapping out on me, it would blank a few times and a notice will pop up saying "Ati video card has stopped working, but recovered blah blah" I was like um okay screw this I decided to restore my computer to an earlier time..
Everything was working fine until now, my screen did the same thing with the old video driver I had, ive hard shut it down like 15 times and I can't get it to show up. When I plug in a VGA my monitor is just all jacked and can't see anything but scribble lines, pink, blue, white you name it.. I don't know what to do nowI need my laptop because I have songs in there I need to use this week for DJing
Any ideas???

Try downloading the driver direct from ati
Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM -
I cant see my screen, when I bootup I see nothing but black, my external doesn't work either..........

Does the HP BIOS logo come up at all when you boot the unit? If so, try tapping the F8 key immediately after the BIOS logo goes away to access Windows' boot options, then select Safe Mode.
-
Turn off, take out the battery and energy from wall. Let it stay for while and put battery and turn on again.

Its okay, I called HP and they think its a faulty mother board. We went through so many options and nothing worked. I hope they don't think it was my fault and make me pay for the damaged motherboard. The only thing I did was apply after market thermal grease. I asked them if opening the case voids anything and he said No. Do you guys know if after market thermal will void it?
-
Yes, it will void the warranty.
Also, it looks like you improperly applied the thermal paste. -
How did I improperly put thermal grease on, I cleaned the old one off with rubbing alc, and applied new one on.. Im stumped on how I could've improperly put it on.
-
Did you apply thermal grease to both your CPU and GPU? You can check to see if everything is seated right.
Since you can't see anything on boot up or on an external monitor it's definitely a HW issue. When the HP tech sees the grease there they will most likely void your warranty. -
Well...Are you sure that you didn't apply too much or apply on the right spot or made sure you didn't introduce any air bubbles (Usually occurs if you mess up and lift; you have to clean and reapply) or allow it to cure.
Anyways, it's unfortunate that it died on you. But least you can savage the data on the hd. -
Well, either drivers, too much hard shutdowns or some faulty H/W destroyed your gpu or it got too overheated and went Puf! Anyways, it's gpu h/w issue since your vga ext shows only artifacts and lines. Try servicing, if warranty void, take HDD's, sell laptop for service parts or whatever and buy a new one. Or pay who knows how much for new MoBo. IDK what's the price for that one.
