My problem may be simple and it may be not. but when I hook my laptop up to my 1080p 42" HDTV via HDMI 1.3 cable everything works, sound, picture.. but the problem is the desktop isnt fitting correctly on my TV... it's much too large, cutting off edges off the top, bottom, left, and right... and I can't find any resolution that will make it fit correctly.... does anyone know how to resize or anything like that?
Laptop is HP DV6500t with 8400M GS video card
TV is 42" 1080p LCD Insignia

I had that happen when connection to my tv using a 7-pin s-video to composite adaptor (which is high-def). I fixed it by swapping display drivers, I was running 163.71 but am now running 15x.xx (cant remember the number) and it fits properly. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling your display drivers. Are you running XP or Vista?

Running XP Pro SP2

Download www.laptopvideo2go.com drivers
-
I don't even know which one I'd need...
-
Try downloading the very first XP 32-bit drivers you see on the main page 156.something. They worked for me!

Unfortunately that Driver was apparently for desktops and not for Laptops or it was for a different GPU because it said I didn't have the proper components to install it.
I did install the newest driver for the xp 32 bit Nvidia GPU and it still hasn't fixed my tv, still cutting off the edges......
Does anyone know the correct driver? -
You forgot to slip in the modded .inf thats why its not compatible. Read the instructions
If you do it properly you will get a nvidia control panel with alot more options and settings -
When I updated to the newest driver I did indeed get more options, upon reboot it came up and asked me to identify which HD format I wanted my TV to display in, it displayed the TV model number, it let me choose if I wanted single displays or cloned displays.. but after going through all of this, and letting them choose the recommended setting for me it still is cutting off the sides/top/bottom.

Laptopvideo2go are nvidia desktop drivers that are modified to work on laptops. They perform better and give you more options and compatibility -
Yesyes but as I said after his post, that driver did not work it was for a totally different GPU than mine. Should I then just go to the archives and find the 156 category for my GPU and use whichever that is because even the most recent driver isn't working for my TV although it is for my GPU.

All laptop2govideo drivers will work on yours, you forgot to put the modded .inf file that makes it compatible on nearly all Nvidia mobile GPU's
Another user here had a similar problem with HDMI, turned out it was the TV that was the problem. Once he tried it on a Sony Bravia it worked perfectly -

I will try this when I get home from work, thank you guys. I will keep you up to date on how it went.

Ok a bit of a problem...
I went onto the main page, downloaded the most recent XP 32-bit driver, dowloaded the modded INF, did everything in the quickstart guide, it installed it.
Upon reboot it came up with the window to select what HDMI format I wanted it displayed in.. but this time no options were shown like last time... and i kept pushing next cause there was nothing else I could do, and it errored me... I then went to check to see how my desktop looked on my TV and it's still having the same problem, cut off tops and bottoms and sides.
I don't know why it's not working with HDMI... it worked with my VGA to VGA but i wanted better quality so i went to HDMI..... -
Was hoping to get an answer by the time I got home so I could fix it right away before I went to school for the night
-
Most likely tv compatibility then, try it on another tv if you can. What brand tv are you using?
-
It's an Insignia.
-
Another problem........ Well, it's not resizing itself, but I noticed in my Nvidia control panel there is a TV Resize option that points to the corners and you match it up that way.. well I match up the arrows with the corners on my TV.. press okay.. and then it doesn't change it at all, anyone know the problem?
-
Have you tried it on a different TV like the guy above mentioned?
-
No, I have the only HD TV out of anyone I know, so that's sort of limited.
-
Are you trying to use both displays at once? That was my problem, but if i go into my display settings and make my tv the primary and then go to my laptop monitor and uncheck the extend my desktop button.... My tv now shows everything... Hope this works, let me know if you get the hdmi audio figured out

I'm actually having the similar issues as the thread starter. I have the exact same HDTV, a 42" 1080p Insignia. My issue is when I use VGA from my laptop to the TV, all the normal resolutions work fine EXCEPT 1080p. When I do 1920x 1080 I get a squished image with borders on the left and right of my image, but not the top and bottom. Because the image is squished is makes small details look blurry and small text becomes very hard to read.
