I bought a Laptop a couple of years ago (HP Pavilion ze4145) and it worked fine until the adaptor socket where you plug in the adaptor to the Laptop become loose and would no longer receive power, apparently it came loose which is a common problem for laptops and I had to get it soldered back in place.

I get it back, and the Laptop turns on, it was booting but it kept shutting off, eventually the monitor wouldn’t even turn, yet the Laptop remained on, the lights remained on and I could even hear the fan going inside, then I turned it off, I couldn’t figure out what to do with it so I have set aside, until recently I wanted to either fix the problem or figure out how to open it so I can sell the parts, I can’t figure out how to open it though I removed all the screws yet I can’t open it, any ideas for either fixing it or opening it,

p.s I don’t get any indicator beebs when I turn it on.

it sounds like the same problem you had to begin with. The DC jack is damaged or even shorted out. And there are likely screws places you might not expect to look...soooo, Here is a link to the service manuals for your system:

    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?product=214346&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=us

If you are lucky and your DC jack is attached to board or cable and not directly to the motherboard you might be able to just replace the module that has the DC jack.

Hoep it works out for ya!! ;)

If you going to sell it you might be better off selling it in pieces

I had that happen to my HP ZE5375US and I repaired it myself. I bought a power socket via ebay, desolder the broken socket and solder in the one I had bought on ebay. The computer work for at least another year and a half when there is suddenly no power going in. I suspect this time the heat sink and/or fan might have gone off commision. I am going to try and open it again to change the fan and heat sink and if the Pentium 4 is out of commision I will be able to change it out too. Now only if I had the time to do it since I am loving this DV2000T im typing on.

I have a ze4145 with the exact same problems. All the lights turn on, the processor fan runs, the CD drive tries to initialize and I believe the hard drive does as well, but it never POSTs. It does this even when the battery is being used which leads me to believe it's not a power port problem. It did give me a POST error code of 1 long and 2 short beeps which according to the documentation means "Improper video configuration (reprogram EEPROM) or external ROM checksum failure". It only gave me the beep codes once so I don't even know if they're relevant to the problem.
Even if it is relevant, I don't believe I can reprogram the EEPROM myself (unless someone knows how to do this...?). I think HP has to do it. I tried turning it on with the fn-B thing and hitting the reset switch on the bottom, but that didn't work either.
Luckily, the service manual on HP's website for this laptop is pretty nice so I ripped the thing apart, reseated everything, cleaned it out, and put it back together but still received the same results.
I looked for new motherboards on Ebay for it and found a few that said things like "dead board, cause unknown". :p
If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
    Thanks! :)
