Ok, recently, I broke the hinge of the laptop's lcd. I replace the hinge, there was a cable that was broken, I realize that cable was not related to the lcd since it was connect to the wireless network chip.
I made sure all the lcd cable are plug in the laptop motherboard.
On the back of the lcd, there was white tape and it said do not touch, I accidentally touch this by mistake. I don't know if this is really serious.
Now, the laptop does not have any picture, but the light is on, the lcd has a grayish color, its like its about to load, but no image comes up.
This issue occurred during the hinge breaking.
Any ideas?
I hope I didn't break the lcd.
Model is dv2037us.
The laptop is fine if I hook it up to a monitor via vga port.

i dont wanna replace a lcd, thats too expensive. -
Can you boot to BIOS? Can you see the BIOS? if not, then let me know if your laptop is in warranty or not because you will get a free replacement of your laptop.

Try to open the lcd and check , or loose connectors .Am I had the same problem and was only to those connectors. Do not forget to check if the light source is intact. In the worst house you can splice a cold from a socket (or on the motherboard or from the monitor) Sorry for my ENGLISH

...even if he opened the laptop and attempted to fix it on his own? If he was in warranty, wouldn't that void it out? -
have you tried using an external monitor?

I had the same problem with my HP dv9608ca a couple of weeks ago.
I searched on the internet and I tried this (which worked!):
1) Turn off the laptop
2) Unplug the power adapter from the laptop
3) Take out the battery
4) Hold down the power button for ~30 secs
5) Plug the power adapter back in and turn on the laptop
At this point, my laptop booted up fine. I then turned it off, put the battery back in and it still booted up ok. I then turned it off again and unplugged the power adapter just to make sure the battery was ok, and again it started up fine.
I haven't had any problems since.
Laptop's screen has no image, but light is on
