    I think you should spend the extra for the AMD 64 cpu it is very powerful! Also the 12 cell batter is a must! for 25$ its worth haveing 50% more battery life.

    the 12 cell battery weighs a few ounces more, but for the added few ounces and 25.00 you will get either 1.5-2x the battery life as the 8cell, plus the 12cell can handle more recharges and discharges.

    If you need something right now, then go with the aforementioned suggestions. If you can wait until Aug-Sep, however, you might be able to get better hardware at a similar price point, as j4ever says. Then I would go with the Athlon 64 with (fingers crossed) an ATI MR 9600 or 9700.

    Big laptop manufacturers like HP, and especially Dell, ALWAYS HAVE PROMOTIONS. Don't worry about a promotion expiring. When it does, they will just have a new one to take its place.

    GPU cooling (100°C->75°C)* Inspiron 8600 * 1.8ghz Pentium M * 128 MB Radeon 9600 Pro Turbo (337/242 -> 400/300) * 2x256 MB DDR2700 SDRAM * Aquamark 3: 24058 * 3DMark'03: 3404 * 3DMark'01 SE: 13120

    I did like the Hard drive upgrade but I wanted the 5,400RPM the wirelss one did help me out though, It would be nice to be bluetooth ready but I haven't used it yet and can't think of why i might so I didn't want to pay for it sense I can get a usb adapter later if I need it. I'm not going to use a wireless mouse when I'm still using the keyboard on my notebook
