Hello everyone,
so I own a dv6tqe-7000, and I've had a strange problem. Sporadically, the left/primary click function on my touchpad would disable. I can still use the touchpad itself and the right click function but left clicking or tapping to click will not work.
I switched the functions in Synaptics (Right click to primary click, and left click to secondary click), and the left click ended working but the primary function still did not respond (ie. Right click didn't work). So I don't think it's a hardware issue.
There are some 'fixes' to this as I've discovered:
- Restart the laptop
- Kill explorer.exe function and re-open it
- Hold both mouse buttons down and move the touchpad around for half a minute. I don't know how or why this works but I read it on a post. Only tested one time though so don't read too much into it.
I've tried removing the battery and replugging it in. I'm also on the latest driver on Synaptics (I updated to the new one after it first occured, still happens). I am also on the latest BIOS. What is the problem and what could I do? Could it be the drivers (Should I uninstall Synaptics/touchpad in Device manager and do a clean install)?
I've found a couple people with the same problem but have yet to find a solution. Again, it is a sporadic event and honestly doesn't happen too often. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hey ttp.
)
You know, I never asked if you installed any programs that could come in conflict with the Synaptics driver. Some programs on top of my head that might are some script programs that disable your trackpad while typing, some macro mouse programs etc. You haven't put anything like that, have you? -
Thanks for replying kisetsu. This is a hunch, but it might be related to when I got my Logitech M705 mouse. I had this laptop for 9 days before getting the mouse and I'm pretty sure I would've noticed the problem at least once before that. When I bought the mouse, I noticed the problem in about a little less than a week.
It has a mini-USB receiver that I just leave in at all times. I know that when the left/primary click problem occurs, removing the mini-USB doesn't solve it. Which brings me to something else: I found another solution, if I go to Control Panel -> Mouse -> (Synaptics) Device Settings and then click Reset Devices, the mouse buttons immediately work again. Pretty certain it's a driver issue.
As said before, I've already tried updating Synaptics, so should I uninstall the driver and let Windows 7 re-install it on boot up? The Logitech mouse is shown as HID-compliant mouse I believe. Also, the Logitech mouse possibly being the problem is again, just a hunch.
EDIT: Forgot to add, the Logitech mouse has just Windows generic drivers. I just let Windows install the drivers upon initial plugin and didn't use any drivers from the Logitech site. I also do remember to turn off the mouse when I'm done using it so it's not that because I have to turn it on to use it when the problem occurs. -
I think I grabbed an updated SynTP driver somewhere. Just can't remember where I put it. For the Logitech mouse, I don't know, maybe you should install a non-generic driver? I'm using a Razer mouse and it has this weird bug when I connect it on wireless, that the first try it lags like hell. Maybe something with wireless mice and the trackpad driver?

Thanks for the insight! I'm assuming the SynTP driver wasn't from the HP site under the dv6's model page was it? That's where I got my update of Synaptics after I noticed the problem. I haven't tried looking around for another but I should have time tonight so I'll keep an eye out.
I'll also look into drivers for the mouse on the Logitech site. Thanks!
