How long do you guys think it will take for the P4 to get phazed out when the 64 bit apps/ OS come along? Will Photoshop, CAD, 3DS Max, etc. become 64 bit only? Do you guys think the P4 will be dead soon? Will I have to buy a new laptop in a year or two? I just got a ZD7000 for the 128 GeForce go 5700, but now I'm thinking I should've got a ZV5000 for the Athlon64. Would it be worth it if I get rid of my brand new ZD and get a ZV instead, or am I okay for a few years (hopefully 3-4+years) with the ZD?

I don't think that the P4 will die anytime soon, there may soon start becoming more stuff for a 64 bit processor, but there are still plenty of people using P3s and P2s as well as the equivalent AMD chips, the main people who will have the latest technology is the most hardcore gamers and computer enthusiasts

You're right...maybe I'm getting too caught up with the latest technology because I'm reading these posts by hardcore gamers and computer enthusiasts. But how long do you think it will be when 32 bit is no longer supported? How many years did it take the last time the "bit jump" happened?

Since the P3 is still a very common processor and meets most minimum specs and that is at least 6 years old I would say 3 or 4 years before it no longer meets minimum requirements, longer for higher end P4s, because you have to remember P4 goes from 1.6ghz all the way to 3.2ghz so your life expectancy will varry depending on where you are in the mix.
