I tried to burn a LightScribe label yesterday, using Sonic Express Labeler. However, whenever I try to print the label, the computer makes a bit a noise from the optical drive for a few seconds, and then it just sits there for a minute or two without making any progress. It then spits out the disc saying:
    Or something along those lines.

I've tried upgrading to the latest Lightscribe drivers to no avail. I've burned LightScribe Labels many times before with the same brand CD-Rs (Memorex) without issues, and the optical drive works perfectly fine otherwise.

    Any ideas?

Did you try a different software like Nero?

I don't think the trial version of Nero has the Lightscribe feature AFAIK, so no. Plus, Sonic Express Labeler has worked perfectly fine for me in the past, so I'm not sure if that's the problem.

I'm suspecting that the drive might be going bad, because there's some lag when navigating through files on a CD that wasn't there before. I'll know for sure tomorrow when I bring it to my campus's help desk.

You may want to check that the drive did not slip into PIO mode if you are getting a lag. I'm not sure how much this would affect Lightscribe functioning, but worth a shot.....

Thanks for all your help guys!

The problem is fixed now; the optical drive itself was going bad. I noticed several cdrom errors in the Windows System log (from the old drive), and the new drive seems much more responsive when browsing files on a CD (not to mention that LS works now! In fact, I'm burning a LightScribe label as I type this).
