    Hi,

    Just received my 2nd V2000Z.
For some reason, HP installed the Lightscribe drivers/service, even though it doesn't have a Lightscribe drive.

It added LightScribe service and lsburnwatcher in Startup.

Any idea how to remove it? It doesn't appear in "Add/Remove Programs".

    Thanks

You could stop it from starting with msconfig. Might be part of the burn software suite.

Brightview actually "increases" battery life, by letting turn down the constrast of the LCD in dim light situations.

You can stop the service from loading by running the services console

    start->run->services.msc

Uh dagamer, what's brightview to do with lightscribe crap? :p

Thanks. I know I can disable it using msconfig.. However, I want to remove it completely.

I was hoping they(HP) provided an easy way to remove it.
Guess, I have to dig into the registry.

This only open the Services console... where you can start, stop, disable, etc. services. Can't remove services from there.

    Thanks anyway.

Fill, do you use Sonic? Maybe it's integrated with it.
Also, check Device Manager. I don't have Lightscribe and I don't know how Windows detects it but maybe it is a device.
Try locating the "lsburnwatcher" in the HDD and see in what program it is /then remove it/. That's what I can think of.

if you want to remove it, registry is the only way.
Fire up regedit, HKLM->SOFTWARE->MICROSOFT->WINDOWS->CURRENTVERSION->RUN and delete the lightscribe entry

You could remove whatever burning software is on there now and use something else. CDBurnerXP is free and works well for the basics.

Thanks everyone for the help. I was able to remove it last night. It was not part of Sonic software.

There are about 2-3 registry entries that I deleted to remove it completely.

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\<Lightscribe service> (Also exist in ControlSetxxx)
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Currentversion\Run\<Lsburnwatch>
