Hey, first post and all....anyway, I was wondering if it is possible to take a disc drive from one brand of laptop and put it in another? For instance, would you be able to put a lightscribe burner in like a lenovo or something? I know it would take some major research to be 100%, so I am just looking for a general answer. Sure I could just get an external drive, but I want everything to be in one simple case. There is just one little flaw in the HP notebooks which drives me crazy and will likely prevent me from buying another HP notebook....unless they adressed it in recent years-which maybe you all can help me out with.... Anyway, I have a HP Pavilion ze4300 series, and what irritates the hell out of me about it, is when the silver parts on it get scratched, it goes straight through to the black plastic. And mine gets scratched up frequently because I use it like non-stop and take it everywhere with me in a bag that definately is not for a laptop, but works, and it was free, so I use it anyway. Anyway, on the newer HP notebooks, is the silver just paint ontop of black plastic?

Depends. Sometimes the faceplate on the old drive is not the same shape or size as the new one. Yoy may be able swap or reshape it depending on your skill level. Master/slave, drive size and connectors are also an issue sometimes. I'd say a Lenovo is unlikely. Having owned a lightscribe drive, I don't think it is worth it.
