You can google your drive to see if it supports lightscribe. My guess would be the latter.
-
You can check out whether there is a LightScribe logo on the DVD drive.
-
nah it dont have the logo so its unessary stuff still alittle worried about unstalling it though
-
No, since you told me you didn't go the DVD burner, much less LightScribe enabled awhile back, you don't have LightScribe capabilities.
HP loads all their systems with it for some reason, whether said systems have the drive with LightScribe or not. Uninstalling it shouldn't cause any problems. -
I believe it's from various Media Players and CD/DVD burners that support it.
What Burning software do you have? It most likely the reason.
I also had it in mine notebook (most people do). -
Some of the Lightscribe software gets installed along with the Sonic DVD/CD burning program. HP does a full install which also installs the lightscribe component. Just doa reinstall and deselct the Lightscribe component. They also place a link in the Start menu for lightscribe which can be easily deleted.

i cant deselect the componet when i pop in the recovery cd's all it says is something like hp will return your system to its factory state then once you click ok its automatic all the way through you have no options
-
only thing i have on my notebook is sonic right now i havent got a blank cds right now so im not to worried about lookin for some other burning software
-
Dont use the recovery disc. The Sonic installation files are located in the Swsetup folder. It should be located in a folder named 'Sonic'. Uninstall Sonic from the Add/Remove control panel and run the Sonic setup from the SWsetup folder. During the installation process(I dont remember it exactly) but there should an option to install only specific components of the software. Just select the ones you want to install. I am not at my laptop right now but I believe the lightscribe component is called the Express labler.
-
cool well i uninstalled the lightscribe stuff i had on my notebook and i believe sonic has a app called express labler i guess i'll remove that too.
-
hmm well i dont see it anymore maybe i already took it off
-
next time i do a reformatt im just gonna use my other xp cd and im thinkin right all you have to do is copy the swfolder into the c drive after windows is installed then take the files in the swfolder and install them right? sounds easy enough, although im wondering if when windows installs will it ask for some drivers.
-
It should be easy. The only issue will be installing Quickplay. Follow the dv2000z guide linked in the re-installation guides sticky and there shouldnt be any issues.
-
yeah just leave 1028 off the partition
-
It would be better to use the SP's you download direct from HP, noting which is newer, and installing the latest versions over using the drivers in the C:\swfolder
