Hey, is it possible to limit the maximum battery charge on the Envy 14? I have my laptop plugged in most of the time and would like to keep the charge at around 50% until I need to move it.

Good question, would also like to know if this is possible. But I just take the battery out.

The battery has its own processor to control charge levels. Your best bet is to run it down and then pull the battery.

Not sure it's worth the trouble. The next best thing is to unplug the charger when not using the notebook.

As I've recommended to people before -- purchase another battery. Keep your older one in while using on the desk primarily (serves as a UPS). When you know you're going to be on the go, use your better battery.

One thing I have noticed is the laptop actually runs hotter when there is no battery, as does the power supply.

Um, why would you want to keep it at 50%?

Your battery has circuitry to prevent over charging. When hooked up to an ac your battery has only one thing degrading it, heat from the laptop, staying at 50% won't change that.

Personally, I would avoid buying a second battery unless you need the increased run time (running one down, then running the other). Aside from users who run their batteries down, primary wear just comes from age. You would be doing yourself a favor to wait until your battery "ain't what it used to be" and deciding is it worth investing in a new battery replacement or am I ready for new tech.

No, it is not possible unless your battery supports such a feature (called "charge thresholds"), as it would depend on software support and certain electronics hardware in the battery.
