My roommate opened her laptop today and there is a line going across the center of the screen (left to right).
She hasn't changed any settings/drivers recently, so I don't know what could be wrong with it.
The line is visible no matter what the background color (black background and the line looks gray, white background and it looks black, etc).
Is this a normal problem with LCD screens? It doesn't seem like this should occur on a screen that is not even two years old yet.
It has an intel 945 video card, if that helps diagnosis at all.
Any ideas on cause or a fix?
edit: it seems to have the latest graphics drivers. I also disabled the GPU and the line is still present either way.

If you plug in an external monitor and still see the line it's the GPU. If not it's the panel. Probably.

You are probably looking at a physical defect with that line of pixels in the lcd screen. I cannot say what, or why it happened but the only way to correct it would be to purchase a new lcd panel.
