    Hi,

I will be receiving my zv5000z in a few days and I'm getting ready to install Linux as a dual OS. I was wondering if anyone can let me know where I can find linux drivers for the monitor, graphics card, wireless card, etc. Any tips on potential problems are welcome.

Also (going off on a tangent) does anyone know of a free remote desktop software like Exceed (Hummingbird, which is terribly expensive)? I tried X-manager but I need an option called "Pseudocolor" in the Display configuration that I have so far only found in Exceed. Pseudocolor helps your remote desktop software to handle old and outdated display modes.

    Thanks,

    Klash_c [ :)]

The standard nv driver that comes with X will work, but the official drivers from nvidia.com are better. You may have to edit xorg.conf if your screen resolution isn't recognized, that's about it.

Wireless card: if you want to use it under 64-bit Linux, you're SOL. Broadcom is Linux-hostile and HP has locked out non-HP miniPCI wireless cards in the BIOS. Under 32-bit Linux you can use ndiswrapper to make the Windows drivers work.

I run 64-bit Fedora Core 3 Linux and highly recommend it. Even my Bluetooth mouse works.

Get Cygwin and select the X.org and ssh packages when you do the install. Enable X11 over ssh in the ssh config files, startx, ssh -Y linux_machine_name and away you go.

Thanks for the info. I will try Cygwin and if that works for me I can skip the dual boot and run my programs on my school's server.
    Sincerely,

Cygwin works perfectly with the Pseudocolor option included. Not more reason to buy the outrageously expensive Exceed from Hummingbird. Thanks for your response brianstretch.
