I read somewhere that the broadcom wifi card, for example, will not work under linux. Anything else I should be aware of when ordering this laptop for use with linux?
thanks

You can use ndiswrapper to use Broadcom's Windows driver under Linux. There's even a 64-bit version for AMD users (see the HP L2000 and Compaq V2000z, the AMD Turion equivalents of the dv1000).

With that said, which card would you recommend? there are 3 options:
Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG WLAN
54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
tel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG & Bluetooth(TM)
I do have a cellphone with bluetooth. If i go with the bluetooth card, will I have to still get my cellphone software package, or is it a universal sort of thing? I was also considering getting a bluetooth printer now that im due for a new one.
Whats the raal advantage of getting the broadcom card over the regular intel? -

Given those three choices, get the Intel w/Bluetooth option... though I haven't played with an Intel WiFi card yet and I see someone else says there's been problems? I'm pretty sure Intel has straightened out their Linux WiFi support (anyone?). You'll definitely want the built-in Bluetooth radio if it's not too expensive (it's not for the AMD notebooks). I'm not sure if you'll need the software kit for your cellphone or not. I'm using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I'm going to defer to dv1000 users at this point, I generally avoid Intel-based gear.
