This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     Linux on the DV5Z - can it be done?

    Can you actually install or run Linux (preferably opensuse 11) on the HP Pavilion DV5Z with ATI video card?

    I can't even get the opensuse 11 live CD to boot. (well it boots, and you choose "install" and it'll briefly flash the edd=off or something but then it just sits there).

    I'm guessing it has to do with the video, but cannot be sure.

    Can you boot with the vesa driver instead and then just configure after you install?
    The vesa option should be available on the initial screen where you were choosing install.
