I was just on the HP site today and they currently say that the estimated ship date is May 21, 2004. That is almost a month away! Anyone have any idea about why this is? I want to buy my zt3000 soon, but it seems that it wouldn't make sense right now as I would have to pay for shipping as well as wait a month for it to arrive.

Usually when there is a long build time, it's due to a backorder in parts possibly due to high demand. The X1000, NX7000 & ZT3000 platform is probably one of their better selling units. It took me 2-3 weeks to get my unit. You also have to remember that all backorders have to be fullfilled before they get to yours, so there's a possibility that you'll still have to wait a month when you do order it because it may still be on backorder. But, then again, by waiting, the price may drop and the may have some special/rebate for the units which may make it a better deal. It's really hard to say these days.

Their dates are usually pretty good worst time estamites, and if you notice some parts say in tiny text (will increase build time). this is due to back order and sometimes all options have this. When I got my notebook almost a month ago now build time was 1.5 weeks, since then more people have been buying them and consequently build time is pushed back.

I ordered my customized zt3000 from hp on I believe it was april 11th They told me my estimated ship data was May 12th. It was built and shipped on april 19th(only 8 days after placing the order) and I recieved it 3 days later.

so dont get too discouraged, it very possibly could come MUCH sooner.
