I was looking at purchasing an HP DV2025nr, and it has an AMD Turion X2 TL-50 processor at 1.6ghz.

However, I am not familiar with AMD very much, as I've had Dell Intel Laptops for quite some years....

So my question, what is comparable to an AMD Turion X2 TL-50 in terms of the Intel Pentium side?

Thanks in advance for any help

The TL-50 is a budget dual core processor, comparable in terms of power to somthing like the Core Duo T2300 or the Core 2 Duo T5500. (As a side note, other than the budget Pentium Dual-Core line, the name "Pentium" is no longer used to refer to Intel's most recent core designs.)

Notebookcheck is notoriously unreliable in it's benchmark lists.

I agree, that list is awful. A Core Duo T2500 is better than a TL-60? Yeah right.

Currently, all the latest Intel Processors are better than AMD Processors...

If you are considering buying a DV2000 I would highly suggest you consider an HP DV2500T, it is the newest line available and by all means a better notebook. That is if you can afford it, though the price difference for initially configured notebooks is only roughly $40.00 USD. (DV2500 vs DV2000)

I also highly suggest if your ordering from HP to use the 20% off coupon for Laptops $899.00 and up. Basically if you spend $900.00 USD you get the Laptop for $700.00 USD. I will PM you the coupon now incase you decide to use it.

The TL50 is AMD's low-end dualcore chip, recently replaced by the TK53. The other Turions have twice as much L2 cache. That said, it is 64-bit capable like all current AMD chips (AMD designed the x86-64 standard) and my last notebook had one. For web browsing and what not it's more than adequate. If you get a good deal, go for it.

I have the previous generation Compaq version of that 14" notebook now with a single-core AMD CPU and it's a great little notebook.

Also to be clear, the Core Duo T2500 outperforms the TL-60, as of recent AMD hasn't had much success on the processor front.

They have yet to release a processor that can compete with the Core Duo / Core 2 Duo Lineups.

    So for now:

    Intel > AMD

Thank for all the input. I'm looking at getting the DV2025nr for $600 shipped, a laptop that is used but in great condition physically and cosmetically according to the seller and by his pics.

I should mention my use for the laptop...

It will be a daily user, to constantly surf the internet, check emails, maybe type up a paper or two once in a while, NO games whatsoever unless I get really bored and reinstall CS 1.6, post pictures on my website, burn CDs and DVDs, and travel from up and down the state.

So I don't think I'll be using it very hard, what do you guys think? So far, I've been able to get by rather well with a Dell XPS M140, and before that, a Dell Inspiron 8600, both single core Pentium M chips at 1.7GHz with 1gb RAM and 60gb hard drives each.

Here are some pics the seller has provided me with.

It looks to be in great condition and like an ideal Laptop for what your uses are going to be.

I'd ask him if he takes request, to take pictures of the screen with a solid white background to check for dead/stuck pixels, it won't detect all of them but will give you a general outlook.

yeah he said there were absolutely no dead pixels, i told him i was very picky about that

i'm just wondering if that is a good price for that machine, it looks very nice, when i was working at best buy this laptop was 999.99 when it was on sale, but i believe that was a year ago, now i have no clue, as i only follow dell pricing

I'm sure you could get a NEW DV2000 with better specs for CHEAPER. For example, BestBuy Canada has a dv2404 (TL-53 @ 1.7ghz) for $599. Pretty sure shipping is free. I don't know where you are in the world, but there's sure to be comparable deals in the US and Europe. Therefore, if a new and better model is going for $600, then you may want to reconsider paying the same price for this used notebook that you're looking at.

I agree, plus if you order brand new for a great deal off a website, you can purchase an extended warranty directly from HP which are overall worth it.

I paid 175 USD for a 3 year express warranty on my dv9000t and tthat why I don't have to worry about it.

    that's a good deal, but...

    1) they are already sold out
    2) i don't live in Canada and the option they give me is in store pick up or ship anywhere in Canada

i'm new to the HP scene, where else can i get deals like these?
i'm located in Orange County next to Disneyland in California

Well, at Best Buy this week the dv2415nr gets you a TL56 CPU and Vista Home Premium for $700. Check the rest of the usual suspects for similar deals.

Actually, is you look at the dual-core benchmarks thread, you'll see that the TL-60's outperform quite a handfull of the C2D's, most of the T7200-T7400's.

Don't know if you have made your decision yet, but there are a couple of good coupons floating around right now:

30% off coupon SLICK6000 for the Pavilion dv6000t 15" Laptop
and 30% off $899+ code SPECTRA2010 valid on dv2000t series.

You'd have to check the specs to see, but it might get you a new one for cheaper :)

It's a fantastic notebook. I've had mine for close to two months.

I went for the "slowest" processor, the Core 2 Duo T5500 and the Intel 3100 integrated processor BECAUSE I wanted a notebook that ran whisper quiet and cool. And it does. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

ER, like I said, there's sure to be comparable deals in the US and Europe. Check out your local BestBuy or other bigbox stores.
