Hello all, this might be a huge grave post but I'm currently looking for an authentic AUO screen upgrade from my HP dv6t 6100 CTO SE 1366x768 screen. Starting school again soon and will need a better screen for a lot of time spent staring at and reading from my laptop.

I've scoured this forum (and in the internet/ebay) and have found great information on how to upgrade my screen, but I have been unable to source an exact model for the screen itself. I hear the screen itself is out of production so it's understandably difficult to find anymore. However, any help would be appreciated and I'm not explicitly looking for this screen only, any insightful comments will be appreciated. I'll provide my progress so far.

    1) Ordered the FHD cable 656805-001 from http://www.waresphere.com/store/hp-pavilion-dv6-6000-fhd-lcd-lvds-cable-50-4rn10-022-656805-001.html
Was unable to get the 665305-001 from a vendor for a reasonable price. HP parts store now lists the price at around $90--absolute rip off. Will the cable I ordered (older version) work?
    2) Looking for a B156HW01 V.4 but have only found "compatible" screens so far from ebay sellers originating from Texas. Saw a possibly "exact" model but it was listed at $500. Yikes.
However, it seems that the B156HW03 V.0 model is available for cheaper and exact. Since this seems to be
a revised edition, will it fit into my DV6T 6100 CTO SE? Also, would anybody recommend this screen for
the expanded amount of hours reading and writing for school?

Thanks to anyone who can help--this forum has been tremendously informative to me.

Yes, both are standard 2-channel, 40-pin LVDS type.
Just keep checking regularly on ebay and hit 'used'; one will pop up occasionally, being sold by a seller who doesn't know the value of that specific screen. In fact ... there's a grade-A for $79 right now, sooo ... don't wait too long. You're just lucky I don't have any 15.6" systems that could use this upgrade  .

    t456,

Your response is much appreciated. Unfortunately, I already ordered a generic B156HW01 V.4 and installed the screen on my laptop. This is Lenovo a great find, and I wish I had some more familiarity with how I could still find a genuine screen with higher quality (gamut). I thought they were all done for since nobody really talks about them anymore and I couldn't verify the few eBay/Alibaba screens being sold used.

Sadly, I installed the screen and couldn't get the bezel back on properly as the new cable is much thicker than the original. Still, it's not too bad. Wish I waited for this one, though. The color quality on my screen isn't all too great and the color is a little washed - I kind of get headaches looking at it for too long. Any advice on how to calibrate the color properly? ICC profiles?

    Thanks again.

The fhd bezel probably has a little more leeway. Why not sand off a bit with a file or use a box cutter to trim some of the plastic, whichever is feasible?

The headaches aren't a good sign and calibration will not help you with that. It probably has a matte filter that is too rough for the fhd's high dpi and causes a 'shimmering effect'. I'd get the V4 and sell this ghastly thing for $50 or so, that wouldn't be so bad a deal. Which specific panel did you receive, btw?

For proper calibration you need a photospectrometer, but these are pretty expensive ($5,000 or so). The cheapest alternative I know of is the ColorHug (~$100), made by a diy enthusiast, so that makes it all the more likeable. Use one like that and it works fine, but it uses a vastly different (and cheaper) approach, so a calibration run takes a fair bit of time. Only need to do that once, so it doesn't really matter in the end.

Yeah, the bezel as it is right now isn't too bad at all. Can't really tell that there's a little bulge in the bottom left, and I ended up having to take the "hinge cap" off the thing that makes the screen swivel up and down. Little weird to describe but it's basically leaving some of the wires in view--doesn't really affect the opening/closing much so it's fine with me.

Color calibration isn't all too important to me as you pointed out that it won't help with the eye strain/headache. I'm not exactly sure which screen I got, but speaking with the eBay seller I was told that it was an AUO manufactured screen, but not to the original spec of the B156HW01 V.4? So, the gamut is much lower and other things are probably not as good. Here's a link to the seller's item I bought. Do people really buy these screens used? Would I have luck trying to sell it for $50 or so? Also, since we're on the topic, any chance I can also sell my 1366x768 Samsung Screen that came with the laptop for like.. $anything? Lol, thanks again.

Yep, there's definitely a market for used screens, just like other parts of laptops. There are always people who need to replace the broken screens of their laptops but don't want to shell out a lot of money for a new one. I bought a used 1600x900 screen for like 40 bucks to replace my E5510's 1366x768 screen when it was broken.

If you wanna sell the screens, I'd recommend checking the prices in the market and price yours accordingly. Make sure to use a lot of bubble wraps or thick sponges and a hard cardboard box when you send them though.

Overtallman, t456, thanks for all your help.

Hoping this thread will be helpful to those who may still be trying to upgrade their old laptops and are fortunate enough to stumble across these forums.

You can look in the Device manager and probably see what kind of screen you have. Most likely you got a compatible TN screen if you ordered on ebay.

I think I have a B156HW01 V0 around somewhere that is one of the good ones. 60% gamut and glossy. Dont use it anymore so PM if you wanna buy it.

Maybe if you look at my old post there are pictures of it.
